Description

Machining Instructor

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is now seeking a full-time Instructor who will be responsible for creating and providing quality hands-on learning experiences for our manufacturing team members in learning labs as well as on the manufacturing shop floor. In this role, the Instructor will serve as a subject matter expert in precision machining, grinding, blueprint reading, and other manufacturing related areas.

Penn United Technologies currently employs over 700 people in our employee-owned precision manufacturing company, located approximately 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh in Butler County.

Primary Responsibilities of the Instructor:

  • Instruct and demonstrate machine programming, procedures and operation, through classroom work and hands-on training in lab and shop floor according to established curriculum.
  • Provide timely and appropriate level of instruction, from beginner to advanced, for manufacturing shop floor positions, apprentices, high school students and customers.
  • Within instruction, demonstrate all safety and quality plans in accordance with company programs and policies.
  • Administer assessments and evaluate progress, providing tutoring or remedial training as needed.
  • Maintain student grades and attendance, evaluations, apprenticeship documents and other student training records.
  • Maintain technical expertise, and keep abreast of new instructional methods, equipment advancements and new processes.
  • Seek ways to evaluate and continually improve efficiency and effectiveness of work processes, curriculum, training materials and training programs.
  • Maintain supplies, materials, equipment, and other resources.
  • Travel locally to assist with high school and community-based outreach and/or travel out of state, as needed, to provide customer training.

Qualifications

Qualifications of the Instructor:

Knowledge and skills

  • Areas of expertise to include machining and grinding skills including proficiency in machine set-up and safe operation
  • Precision measurement tools and blueprint reading including a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Key instructor traits including patience, good judgement, tolerance, desire to teach and commitment to student development and educational excellence
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and confident in speaking to small groups
  • Able to quickly learn required computer software
  • Willing to travel locally and occasionally out-of-state
  • Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, able to effectively manage multiple tasks and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong ability to professionally communicate using both verbal and written skills

Education/ Experience
Required

  • Journeyworker Machinist certificate or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the field of instruction in a manufacturing environment to include manual and CNC experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to obtain required clearances for working with minors
  • Must have and maintain valid driver's license

Desired

  • Prior technical teaching/training experience
