As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, technicians, and specialists, you will be responsible for developing and manufacturing Thermal Protection Systems for multiple Blue Origin vehicles. You will be responsible for schedule, milestones and/or program technical approval authority, coordinating manufacturing/schedule changes with upstream and downstream stakeholders including procurement and external teams while assessing programmatic impacts. Leading projects as well as significant tool development and support/ownership of process improvement contributing to detailed procedures. Provide support to strategic initiatives, technology maturation, capturing best practices, identify risks and develop mitigation plans, and recovery strategies for escapes or nonconformances. You will develop advanced technical solutions to complex problems that require regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Develop plans to deliver products on time, create and manage line of balance for hardware and key equipment to support upcoming builds, identifying schedule critical hardware, equipment, personnel and resolving constraints. You will be responsible for responding to unexpected changes to ensure integration activities stay on schedule, on budget, and are completed with high-quality and documented build pedigree

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Materials, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years' experience with reentry vehicles/environments, thermal protection systems, or carbon composites
  • Development or manufacturing experience with TPS composites; Si/C/SiC; C/SiC; C/C or similar composites
  • Project management experience with schedules, task tracking, and record keeping
  • Ability to perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions
  • Experience training, mentoring and leading younger engineers.
  • Significant experience creating and iterating work instructions
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Must be physically able to:

  • Support production floor activities
  • Climb stairs and work in small areas
  • Lift and carry 40 lbs.

Desired:

  • Aerospace/Launch vehicle experience
  • New production line/facility startup
  • Experience with EHS requirements for large scale chemical processing activities
  • General proficiency with CAD
