Job Description

Job Summary:

The National Independence Experienced Associate, Personal Compliance is responsible for assisting the National Independence Personal Compliance team with ensuring the firm and its professionals comply with the independence rules of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) as well as BDO's independence policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Consults on independence inquiries from BDO principals and managers concerning compliance with BDO Investment Tracking System (BITS)
  • Assists with the review of the New Hire and Annual Independence Confirmation submissions and identifies responses that may be problematic to the Firm's compliance with applicable regulatory independence rules or with BDO policies and procedures
  • Assists with organizing and maintaining independence audit documentation submitted by BDO managers and principals
  • Assists BDO managers and principals with the establishment of BITS broker feeds, including the necessary steps and/or required documents
  • Assists with educating the practice on the firm's personal compliance policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, required, with a focus in accounting or business, preferred

Experience:

  • One (1) or more years of experience in a public accounting firm, required
  • Independence, compliance, or risk management experience, preferred
  • Client service experience, preferred

License/Certifications:

  • N/A

Software:

  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, required
  • Experience with SharePoint, preferred

Language:

  • N/A

  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment and handle multiple projects/tasks with an attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or in coordination with other professionals
  • Ability to understand and maintain the confidentiality of all information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate with diverse personalities in a tactful and mature manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to respond tactfully and professionally in high demand situations

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $29.81 to $40.00 per hour
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $29.81 to $40.00 per hour
