Job Description:

The Sr. Engineer I, Interoperability will serve as the acting technical lead on a variety of projects involving integration between disparate systems, using a common communication standard to exchange demographic, financial, and clinical information. Using industry standards and the Mirth Connect development platform, the Engineer will be responsible for development and configuration of the software that will allow the various healthcare systems to communicate.

  • Develop, test and deploy interoperability and integration solutions using common and accepted industry applications, tools and technologies.
  • Act as the technical project lead and will have responsibility to ensure projects follow best practices and accepted design patterns.
  • Work with the customer and key project stakeholders to gain a strong understanding of the customer needs to develop the interoperability/integration solutions based on workflows, requirements, specifications and documentation that will meet those needs and will contribute to the completion of the project with a high level of quality and within planned timelines
  • Make recommendations to the team and customers on how to design and implement the solution using best practices, common and accepted industry applications, tools, and technologies.
  • Bring projects to go-live and bring customers to full operational status.
  • Document processes and make suggestions in areas of improvement for consideration
  • Facilitate communication with key internal and external project participants and work closely with the Team Manager and/or the Project Manager to communicate status on assigned projects.
  • Assist leadership and Sr. Engineers with training and mentoring junior-level team members.
  • Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Software Programming, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

Experience Required:
  • 5+ years experience working with Mirth Connect or other healthcare interface engines.
  • 3+ years experience in software development using Java, JavaScript, or other similar languages.
  • 3+ years experience working with relational databases writing SQL, Stored Procedure, and reports.
  • Experience analyzing specifications including software design, documentation, and testing ; using REST API.
  • Experience managing and tuning Enterprise Master Patient Indexes (EMPIs) ; working with patient aggregation platforms such as Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) ; working with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or other cloud platform providers ; public health reporting are a plus.
License/Certification Required:
  • Mirth Connect Advanced Certification.
  • AWS Architect Associate/Professional Certification ; Microsoft Azure Certification are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of:Knowledge and familiarity working in healthcare software integration and interoperability and its common technologies using HL7, FHIR, Json, XML, X12, ASTM, or other related integration protocols or interoperability toolsets. Understanding of UNIX with the associated command line interface
  • Skill in:High degree of technical aptitude, a strong focus and experience on programming skills and a team collaboration approach to achieve successful results. Strong verbal, written and presentation skills, analytical, problem solver, collaboration skills.
  • Ability to:Work in an environment that requires both collaborative and independent efforts as needed in a fast-paced, highly skilled environment with like-minded individuals. Analyze engineering specifications including software design, documentation, and testing. Ability to effectively communicate, at times in a non-technical language, with our customers at all levels of the organization.
