Job Description

We are looking to fill a Scientist 1, 2, or 3 position working as a full-time employee of Parexel FSP on assignment onsite at one of our clients located in Rahway, NJ. This position offers full benefits, sick time, 401K, paid holidays, and paid time off. This position does not offer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain laboratory chemical collections according to established procedures and maintain a safe, well-stocked and clean laboratory in accordance with technical and safety protocols.

  • Upkeep and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment including UPLC-MS instruments and liquid handling robots. Report non-routine maintenance issues of the laboratory equipment and instruments to the proper facility management teams and personnel.

  • Use liquid handling robots to create and maintain libraries of ligands and catalysts for use in high throughput experimentation.

  • Following provided procedures, synthesize compounds of interest on milligram to gram reaction scales. Characterize the products of chemical reactions using appropriate instrumentation including LCMS and NMR. Purify the products by crystallization or chromatography.

Qualifications

  • A BS or MS degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required.

  • Scientist 1, BS with no experience

  • Scientist 2, BS with 1-2 years of relevant experience; or MS with no experience

  • Scientist 3, BS with 3-5 years of relevant experience; or MS with 1-2 years

Required Skills and Experience

  • Open communication, an independent and precise way of working, keen attention to detail, and good organizational skills are a must.

  • Good communication skills

  • Strong proficiency with computers

  • Ability to work on different projects in parallel are required.

  • Excellent laboratory skills in chemistry are critical.

  • Ability to work in a team and interact with colleagues in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

  • Motivated and independent, show a desire to learn new workflows, and demonstrate the initiative to improve existing workflows.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience in chemical compound handling and inventory management is strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with synthetic methods in organic synthesis, basic programming skills, and lab robotics would be an advantage.
