Description

Acts as front-line supervisor to all Residential Counselor I's (Awake Overnight employees) employed within the residential programs. Ensures full implementation of all plans of support in alignment with the company's philosophical approach to service delivery. Acts as the primary resource for DSPs during the hours of 9 pm and 7am by answering emergency calls and providing announced and unannounced support to an identified number of residential locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Mission and Philosophy

  • Performs all job duties with the understanding that what is most important is that which is important to the individual supported.
  • Ensures through mentoring, guidance, and feedback that employees' approach to services are congruent with the needs, wants and desires of each individual supported and the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, dignity, and respect towards individuals supported, co-workers, management, and other associates both within the organization and outside the company.
  • Supervises direct support professionals (DSP) under their direction to ensure they are supported, prepared, trained and confident in their ability to effectively fulfill all duties of their positions in alignment with the company's procedures, standard business practices, and philosophical approach to service delivery.
  • Maximizes the performance of DSPs by providing ongoing feedback, development and ensuring required training as well as conducting 90 day and annual performance evaluations.
  • Accepts ownership of and assures that relevant information, including but not limited to, senior management decisions, new initiatives, policies and procedures, is properly communicated to DSPs. Provides guidance, manages perceptions, and ensures DSPs' understanding.
  • Confirms at all times the health and safety of each person supported and applies emergency procedures as necessary. Manages crisis situations and ensures that debriefings and plans of correction are completed as needed.
  • Ensures the implementation of Support Plans and other recommendations made by the clinical specialist
  • Seeks out ways to improve quality and effectiveness of services, consistent with established mission, values and strategic objectives

Licensing and Contractual Compliance

  • Act in accordance with and reports all violations of agency policies, state and federal regulations, local monitoring standards, and contractual requirements. Ensures compliance by all DSPs with federal, state, county and other applicable licensure regulations and related laws.
  • Correctly and accurately completes and submits and/or reviews documentation required by InVision Customized Services including but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, progress notes, petty cash vouchers, medical compliance checklists, etc. and reports immediately any discrepancies to program manager.

Administrative

  • Complies with all InVision Human Services policies, procedures and standard business practices.
  • Attends training as required, attends and facilitates required meetings and attends regularly scheduled supervision with Program Manager.
  • Utilizes computer equipment and programs to provide for efficient and effective communication and work flow.
  • Responds effectively and in a timely fashion to communications from employees supervised.
  • Takes initiative to further their professional growth and foster personal responsibility through independent learning and development and encourages staff to also take initiative to increase their knowledge and growth as residential counselors
  • Ensures a minimum of monthly supervision of and quarterly utilization of the SOS tool for each DSP to provide oversight and support.
  • Interviews and makes hiring recommendations for DSP openings.
  • Provides a consistent supervisory presence in the homes of the people served, by supporting DSPs at least weekly in both an announced and unannounced capacity to ensure effective oversight and facilitate a meaningful relationship between DSPs and the people supported.
  • Adheres to schedule for arrival time, scheduled appointments, and other company related meetings and responds effectively and in a timely fashion to all communications.
  • Proactively feeds information upwards to keep management well informed of issues effecting operations.
  • Creates and maintains effective interpersonal working relationships, both within the program and with other departments and external teams, and functions as a member of the organization's leadership.
  • On a rotating basis, during regularly scheduled hours and other assigned days acts as an emergency contact for DSPs.

Financial Management

  • Reviews and verifies financial documents such as payroll, expense forms and petty cash.
  • Provides full documentation of all expenditures made on behalf of the agency and/or each individual supported.
  • Reports immediately any discrepancies related to use of personal or agency funds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Residential Program Manager

Supervises all direct care staff working within assigned residences.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years' experience working with people with an intellectual or developmental disability or autism; Associates Degree and three (3) years' experience working with people with an intellectual or developmental disability or autism; Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years' experience working with people with an intellectual or developmental disability or autism or developmental disabilities

Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Incumbent must demonstrate an understanding and ability to implement non-restrictive, positive, person directed supports.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to comprehend access and utilize electronic medium and various computer programs.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply basic mathematical concepts
  • Competency in prioritizing multiple and competing projects

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
