THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board (SOAB) is seeking a SOAB Investigator to conduct pre-sentencing and pre-parole investigations of persons convicted of sexually violent offenses in the Norristown Region. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Sexual Offenders Assessment Board Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting pre-sentencing and pre-parole investigations of persons convicted of sexually violent offenses for the SOAB. Duties include, but are not limited to, conducting personal and criminal background investigations of convicted sex offenders and preparing investigation reports for SOAB members to use in conducting Sexually Violent Predator assessments for the courts and risk assessments for the Pennsylvania Parole Board; and face-to-face forensic interviews with convicted sex offenders and collateral interviews with employers, family members and friends, and a wide variety of criminal justice and social service practitioners, including institutional personnel, police officers, district attorneys, county court staff, state parole agents, county probation officers, and children and youth workers to obtain information for the preparation of comprehensive investigation reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • The selected applicant will work a 40-hour work week, with fluid work hours to allow the applicant to meet statutory deadlines. This will be discussed in detail during the interview process.
  • Work area: Although home headquartered, this position is responsible for conducting investigations in the following counties: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, and Philadelphia. Regular travel to these counties is required to collect information, conduct interviews and attend monthly in-person staff meetings.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $57,793.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:

  • Two years of professional experience in victims assistance, social welfare case work, law enforcement, or probation/parole which included six months of investigation of sexually violent crimes, sex crime counseling work or sex offender parole supervision and a bachelor's degree.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania driver's license.
