Are you looking to jump-start your civil engineering career? Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer Trainee! This twelve-month training program is designed to develop the engineering skills, abilities, and knowledge required of a PennDOT Civil Engineer.
Through on-the-job learning activities, you will gain exposure to engineering areas of design, construction, maintenance, and highway safety and traffic, which will prepare you to advance into a permanent position within the Bureau of Operations.
You will perform a variety of developmental work assignments in all phases of highway and bridge design, construction, and maintenance, as well as non-engineering support functions. You will develop a basic understanding of departmental policies, procedures, organizational responsibilities, and workflow.
Training consists of scheduled rotational work assignments in engineering districts to gain familiarity with district personnel and procedures, and to participate in work projects to achieve the overall training objective. You will also participate in classroom training as designated by the program coordinator.
Work is closely screened prior to assignment and reviewed in detail for completeness, technical accuracy, and soundness of approach, both in progress and upon completion. Upon satisfactory completion of the training program, final job placement will be made to meet both the employee's and department's needs.
