Vertex has established a new research site in the Boston area where research, development, and clinical manufacturing for cell and genetic therapies is primarily based. Cell and genetic therapies represent two rapidly emerging therapeutic modalities with the potential to treat-and even cure-several of the diseases Vertex is focused on, including sickle cell disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and type 1 diabetes. Further investment in a research site specifically designed to advance these programs will be key to Vertex's continued and sustained leadership in these exciting approaches. At Vertex Cell and Genetic Therapies (VCGT) our research teams will bring together the best biology, technologies and enhanced manufacturing capabilities to ensure we bring these cutting-edge transformative therapies to patients as quickly as possible.

Vertex is seeking a Senior Manager, Device Raw Materials Planning to lead device raw material planning supporting Vertex's cell and gene programs.

The Senior Manager will join the fast-growing supply chain team and report to the Associate Director of Raw Materials Planning. The will support process development and clinical manufacturing sites located in Providence, RI.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:

Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee material requirements and lead the device raw material planning process for the providence, RI site for BOM and non-BOM materials. Partner with CMC, Procurement and Strategic Sourcing to ensure supply and solve supplier and materials related issues. Manage direct and indirect materials for manufacturing activities, as well as materials for packaging/labeling and sterilization activities.
  • Ensure material readiness for Providence manufacturing site. Oversee 0-3 month planning and coordination with key stakeholders. Lead cross-site coordination on supply planning for products shared with other sites. Continuously improve planning business processes. Maintain relationships, and benchmark with sister sites to continually look for improvement opportunities for planning.
  • Participate in S&OP processes for VCGT, drawing direction from patient supply and demand.
  • Manage a team to lead Providence materials effort and provide direction on achieving proper materials availability.
  • Contributes to overall strategic development of the supply chain function, including working with other cross functional leaders to integrate the activities of the function. Influences objectives across the Providence site. Assists in the creation of department goals.
  • Utilize business systems (Oracle ERP, OBI, ect) to manage and interpret material data. Research past and expected spend levels to understand and action areas of cost savings opportunities and potential risk.
  • Maintain strong cross functional relationships to bolster communication with internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain/Science/Business Operations related disciplines
  • 6+ years of Biotech, Pharmaceutical or medical device company related work experience
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with high degree of effectiveness
  • Possesses a distinguished record of delivering on critical project goals and moving projects forward
  • Exhibits robust knowledge across supply chain disciplines
  • Demonstrates strong aptitude for managing and motivating others and building team unity
  • Good understanding of the medical device and biotech industry and market
  • High level understanding of GMP processes and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, execute, follow up and anticipate challenges
  • Knowledge of ERP setups with skills and proficiency to include MRP and ability to download and analyze data
  • Experience with quality management systems (change controls, deviations, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Pay Range:

$152,460 - $228,690

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
