CMU's Computing Services department is searching for a Sr. CMS Developer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will be responsible for planning, designing and maintaining infrastructure necessary to deliver digital content via a variety of applications. Developing custom programs written in languages such as Perl, Python, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and others to enhance user appeal, utility and overall site functionality. Creating Web front-end user interface to new or existing databases using a combination of HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript and other languages to make business applications accessible. Is comfortable with git source control, and prepared to do productive code review of other developers' work. The Sr. Web Develop may be responsible for assisting/mentoring junior level web developers and may lead large department projects requiring in-depth knowledge of complex programming languages. Responsible for maintaining technical documentation as needed and must be willing to work within a fast paced, continuous delivery development environment.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Actively participate in the development, testing, and deployment of an innovative content management platform, with a focus on the Drupal and Cascade CMS, to drive CMU's web presence.

  • Architect, built, test & integrate new products making recommendations as needed.

  • Build interactive pipelines so that our development team can review, test, and deploy changes to production environments. Work at all levels of development but with a focus on developing new features and our development and deployment processes (e.g. automated testing, CI/CD, custom tooling).

  • Creates front-end user interface to new or existing databases and content management systems. Ensure interfaces are compelling, accessible user-centered.

  • Develop custom programs written in languages such as PHP, JavaScript Node.js, SQL, and others to enhance user appeal, utility and overall quality of Carnegie Mellon's digital services.

  • Explore advanced concepts including accessibility, application performance, API development, containerization, and more.

  • Implement interactive pipelines to facilitate seamless review, testing, and deployment of changes to production environments, with a particular emphasis on developing new features and enhancing development and deployment processes.

  • Lead the design of web architecture & code writing in order to plan, develop & deploy websites, ensuring site functionality.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation.

  • May be responsible for assisting junior level web developers.

  • Maintain technical documentation as needed.

  • Participate directly in the development, testing, and deployment of an innovative content management platform-as-a-service on Drupal 9 which powers part of the university's web presence.

  • Use PHP, server scripting, along with a strong understanding of integration between systems to create and maintain the infrastructure that supports our applications as well as our development process.

  • Utilize PHP, server scripting, and comprehensive knowledge of system integration to establish and maintain the infrastructure supporting our applications and development processes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Science or Computer Science Required

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

  • 5-8 years of Web Development experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of development experience in relevant projects

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Willingness to travel to on- and off-campus locations as required, with the possibility of evening and weekend work.
