DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Activities Specialist for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for organizing, instructing and supervising inmate programs, leisure time activities, inmate work crews, and sports within your assigned institution.

You will be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and teaching programs at all levels of interest and ability in the areas of sports, games, creative and performing arts, and social recreation. You will be coaching or assisting in the coaching of various sports, such as basketball, soccer, and power lifting and demonstrating basic sports techniques and fitness equipment. In this role, you will also be responsible for supervising inmate organizations and self-help groups.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (40-hour work week)
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please note, selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $58,920.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree with major course work in recreation and physical education; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
