GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Supervisor I, Laboratory (Lab) is responsible for supervision of Environmental Water testing. As supervisor in Environmental Water, The supervisor leads multiple functions of the department including sample preparation, testing, and resulting of water specimens.

Supervisors provide for day-to-day guidance on teammate scheduling and performance. Both positions evaluate and monitor compliance with service guarantees and specimen quality requirements. They ensure adherence to corporate standard policies and procedures related to job performance, customer interactions, teammate relations, and information confidentiality for clinical lab information. These positions do not require registry license and may be non-technical; may be assigned to work a designated shift on day/evening/night. This position reports to the Manager, Laboratory (Lab).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides overall direction, communication, and oversight to teammates regarding workflow of departmental tasks or assignments to ensure effective implementation and performance:

  • Ensures teammate adherence to procedures and quality assurance requirements;
  • Participates and/or leads in the development of and compliance with all departmental policies and procedures for performance and quality assurance
  • Serves as a resource to teammates, providing oversight and support to training and competency program
  • Monitors performance to established targets, goals or metric
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement within the department, Monitors work flow and delegates responsibilities to team members
  • Establishes staffing plans to promote the most effective use of all teammates

Provide leadership to direct reports by:

  • Facilitating the resolution of organizational obstacles encountered
  • Knowing, understanding, implementing, following, and communicating to teammates DaVita's employment policies and procedures, awards, and other opportunities within company and foster a positive work environment
  • Assisting in teammate development (PDRs, coaching, mentoring, DaVita training, outside training); collaborating with direct reports to create professional development goals

Manages all teammates' employment activity such as hiring, promoting, job performance, evaluations, and disciplinary actions with appropriate approvals as required. Plans, organizes and supervises teammates to ensure high quality teammate customer service:

  • Provides work direction for department teammates
  • Determines staffing plans that promote the most effective use of all teammates; ensure coverage during teammate absences

Maintains teammates records to include written performance evaluation of all staff records to be kept in compliance with DaVita policy and any applicable laws:

  • Evaluates, records and processes teammate reviews and compensation according to company policy and in timely manner
  • Reviews and approves time cards of teammates as required for payroll

Performs competency evaluations and periodic performance reviews as required

Performs infection control and safety policies, maintains an active role in the laboratory's quality improvement program (incident reports, CAP surveys, TAT's, service guarantees) and ensures levels of compliance of established laboratory outcome standards, and states regulations are met.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2-4 Years
  • Must have High school diploma or equivalent

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, TRAINING, OR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree as MLT or Bachelor's degree as MT or biological sciences or related field - preferred
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft office - required
  • One (1) year supervisory experience - preferred
  • Two (2) years clinical laboratory experience as generalist or in related work position and/or industry - preferred
