A Brief Overview
The Leukodystrophy Center is a highly specialized interdisciplinary group within the Division of Neurology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia that provides comprehensive clinical care, diagnostic testing, and advanced therapeutic options for infants, children and adolescents with inherited white matter diseases known as leukodystrophies, and is considered a global leader in translational and clinical research for this rare group of disorders.
We are currently seeking a Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) to serve as a primary liaison for our undiagnosed patients. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, performing initial intake calls and research consent interviews, as needed, communicating with schedulers to set up appointments for new and follow-up patients, collecting medical records for provider review prior to the appointment, requesting and processing genomic data from outside sequencing laboratories for secondary analysis, as needed, preparing requisition forms and other paperwork for senior members of the clinical team, and prioritizing other patient-facing tasks, as needed.
The Leukodystrophy Center is a high-volume, fast-paced environment that includes both clinical and research components that are inextricably linked, and a successful GCA candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to multi-task proficiently. Prior experience working or volunteering in a clinical and/or research environment is strongly preferred. Outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential, as the position involves regular contact with physicians and clinical staff in the Division of Neurology, as well as with patients and their families.
