Job Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant supports campus operations in one of the designated Operations Areas. Responsible for providing general labor, custodial, groundskeeping and basic trades support. Including, but is not limited to minor maintenance, mowing, lawn and shrubbery installation and maintenance; construction support; set-ups/tear-downs for campus events, cleaning, trash removal and the operation of small utility vehicles and operating equipment. The immediate supervisor is the Operations Area Manager although the individual may receive day-to-day guidance from the Custodial Section Supervisor, Trades Technician or Groundskeeper; and may need to communicate / coordinate with other Facilities and University teams to complete specific work order requests.

Job Duties:

* Occasionally performs work as required to support University / student-related programs and other special events. Such as, but not limited to, coordinating campus moves, erecting and dismantling platforms, tables, chairs, and other special event activities.
* Routinely performs minor maintenance tasks in basic plumbing, carpentry, and painting to support the completion of work orders / requests.
* Frequently performs groundskeeping work on campus grounds such as, but not limited to, mowing grass, trimming trees, and shrubs, weeding flower beds, preparing seed beds, planting trees and shrubs, shoveling snow, mulching, operating power hand tools, and operating light equipment.
* Occasionally performs general custodial duties. Including, but not limited to, cleaning, spot cleaning, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing, scrubbing, striping, polishing, and buffing interior and exterior building surfaces, rooms, and objects.
* Adheres to OSHA standards, employs safe practices, and follows safety policies/procedures. Uses PPE in a safe manner, sets examples for others, notifies supervisor of potential hazards, and demonstrates good housekeeping habits. Immediately reports accidents, injuries, security violations, stolen or missing items, and safety hazards and conditions to a supervisor. Checks fire extinguishers, fire alarms and emergency lights as required.
* Properly stores, safely operates and maintains tools, equipment and materials used to perform work in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Hazard Communication programs, manufacturer instructions, and/or University policies and procedures.

* Supports and promotes the University's sustainability efforts.
* Other duties as assigned

* Percentage of the above-described work in the Operational Areas:
Upper Campus - Trades 40%, Labor 10%, Custodial 25%, Grounds work 25%
Center Campus - Trades 25, Labor 40%, Custodial, 10%, Grounds 25%
Lower Campus - Trades 25%, Labor 20%, Custodial 20%, Grounds 35%

Minimum Qualifications:

* A minimum of one year of experience that includes physical labor and/or maintenance work.
* A high school diploma or equivalent.
* A valid driver's license and a safe driving record for the past three years.
* Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written instructions.
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness

* Demonstrated ability to learn and use small tools and equipment
* Demonstrated ability to use good judgment / independent decisions and work with a minimum of supervision both independently and as a team.
* Must communicate and work effectively with coworkers, students and other staff members
* The ability to work weekend, evenings and overtime as needed; including after hours for campus emergencies (e.g. roof leaks, plumbing issues, broken windows or other minor maintenance repairs).
* This staff position is classified as part of essential services. This individual is required to report to work during severe weather even if the campus has a delayed opening, early closing, or is closed, unless instructed otherwise by a supervisor or appropriate time off is approved in advance by a supervisor.
* Post offer background check, motor vehicle check and drug screen will be conducted.

Physical Demands:

* Bending, kneeling, stooping, ability to push and pull reaching above and below shoulders, lifting.
* Must use proper safety equipment for hearing, head, eye, feet, hand and body protection as required.
* Move, lift and carry up to 75 pounds unassisted.
* Daily exposure to dust, dirt, cleaning detergents and chemicals, odors, body fluids and waste, weather and temperature changes.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
