Role Summary:
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Engineering Technician will be responsible for the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of protective relaying equipment, instruments and electrical devices mounted on panels. These panels and equipment will be in a factory, production or pre-commissioned status and may be existing equipment previously installed or in-service in electrical facilities and substations.
Exciting work you will do:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Engineering Technician position may consist of some or all, and are not limited to, the following:
  • Perform acceptance tests on equipment using various test equipment (e.g. computers, multi-meters and relay test sets) and ac/dc power supplies
  • Assist with tests on electrical devices in our production facility and at customer sites
  • Interpret electrical/electronic and mechanical schematics
  • Inspect product to ensure compliance with safety standards, operational efficiency and overall quality
  • Create and file testing documentation
  • Support the creation of standard testing templates (checklists and procedures) for protective relays, IED's and electrical devices frequently applied in our projects
  • Adhere to RPS Quality Management, safety and work procedures and requirements
  • Support the identification and implementation of continual improvement of processes and customer satisfaction
  • Support, as required, other aspects of our assembly and design efforts

What you'll need:
  • Work Experience: 1 year of experience in testing electromechanical relays, instruments and control devices
  • Education: Associates degree in electrical/electronic technology or related field, or commensurate experience
  • Analytics/Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Organization Skills: Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Cross-functional skills: Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and customers; proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Physical, Mental and Visual Skills: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Qualifications we prefer but don't require:
  • Work Experience: Testing and field experience in electric utility and industrial substations; familiarity with performing diagnostic tests using various test equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, and Omicron
