The Analytical Engineer is an exciting role supporting analytical instrumentation across Air Products' gas production and distribution facilities in the Americas. This role will provide technical expertise in the following areas related to analytical instrument technology: performance testing, installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting and obsolescence planning. A keen focus on safety is extremely meaningful in this role. It is imperative that Air Product's diversity, inclusion and safety culture is fully embedded in every aspect.


This position can be based in any of the following locations: Allentown, PA, La Porte, TX, and Chandler, AZ. Up to 25% travel may be required throughout the Americas region.

Job Duties
  • Support analytical requests from operating facilities. Drive analytical strategy through consensus building with associated stakeholders.

  • Define analytical technology selection, installation, and maintenance for the analytical projects team. Evaluate sample conditioning system designs.

  • Work with analytical instrumentation vendors on identifying appropriate equipment for operating facilities and test innovative analytical technologies that have low total cost of ownership.

  • Work closely with the process engineering team to optimize plant processes.

  • Collaborate with the quality team to enable vetting of suppliers, external labs and analytical service providers. Help with issues on product quality and define analytical solutions to meet specific customer needs.

  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with key internal and external customers and work well in multi-functional teams across the Americas.

  • Demonstrate compliance with company policies and follow company work processes, particularly with regards to documenting work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Engineering, or a scientific field required. Graduate degree preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience with analytical instrumentation in the Specialty or Industrial Gas industries.

  • Possess experience with gas analysis using various detection techniques: spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, electrochemical sensors, and paramagnetic sensors. Experience with method development, gas sampling systems and process control systems is preferred.

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and be fluent in written and verbal English.
