A Brief Overview

The manager will join a talented leadership pool within the Office of Data and Analytics (DnA), at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Our hospital is a large independent pediatric academic healthcare organization on the cutting edge of innovation with a large data team dedicated to driving our organization towards the future of healthcare. This role will have a dual reporting relationship with both our Center for Healthcare Quality and Analytics and the Department of Digital and Technology Services (DTS).

As a thought leader and manager, you'll leverage your revenue cycle and financial expertise to lead a team of data analysts and programmers focused on optimizing our revenue cycle from beginning to end. You'll partner with other leaders within DnA and DTS, and key stakeholders throughout our organization to identify business needs, translate them into actionable data solutions, and measure the impact on our bottom line. This includes developing solutions like KPI development, automation, in-depth reporting, and the development of machine learning models - all with a keen eye on data quality and an understanding of process improvement.

The DnA team combines business knowledge with technology to empower decision makers and believes that analytics and data can improve outcomes, optimize processes, and reduce costs. Portfolios managed by this manager role may include Revenue Cycle (Hospital Billing, Professional Billing, and Homecare), Financial Clearance, Pre-service Registration and Access, HIM, Coding, Revenue Integrity, Utilization Management, and work done through quality and process improvement opportunities.

What you will do:

Acts as the manager of the analyst team, to include:

  • Operational SME in Revenue Cycle and/or Finance
  • Staff recruiting, coaching, professional development and supervision
  • Delegates tasks and responsibilities
  • Manages project timelines and status
  • Makes sure that work quality matches customer needs

Serves a technical SME within the organization:

  • Point of contact for analytics
  • Has an understanding of how data is ingested, housed, and retrieved
  • Provides expertise in data management, data collection, data analysis, data visualization, data distribution, KPI and metric creation
  • Evaluates new technology and opportunities to improve analytics utilization
  • Participates in enterprise data governance

Contributes to the analytics strategy and deployment:

  • Intakes customer needs and prioritizes and allocates resources
  • Reports on project status
  • Formulates analytics strategy and engages with committees and key organizational decision makers to ensure alignment with organizational strategy
  • Maintains professional accountability to support quality and process improvement efforts and alignment with enterprise strategic priorities

Builds and maintains partnerships within the organization:

  • Supports strategic enterprise initiatives
  • Collaborates with Improvement project teams and other teams
  • Provides services to hospital divisions and departments
  • Coordinates with Digital and Technology Services leaders and teams

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree biostatistics, epidemiology, health services research, economics, quantitative science or related discipline Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years experience in analytics / business intelligence Required
  • At least five (5) years project management, preferably portfolio management in data analytics, business intelligence, or statistical analysis Required
  • At least six (6) years analytics / business intelligence Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in at least one computer programming language or analytical programming language (R, Python, SAS, etc)
  • Experience with data visualization tools preferred (Tableau, Qlik, etc)
  • Experience with SQL
  • Expertise in relational database structures
  • Expertise in data flows, conceptual knowledge of ETL
  • Demonstrated experience in project management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scope, approach and execution for building and supporting an enterprise data warehouse
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams that include internal employees as well as consultants and contractors
  • Experience in IT projects and those that implement new business or clinical processes as a result of new technologies is strongly desired
  • Must possess a highly consultative work style and specialized knowledge that can be translated to business strategy initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication skills
