The Job:

The Materials Manager directs or coordinates production (scheduling), purchasing of materials, distribution, financial forecasting, or activities to limit costs and improve inventory accuracy, materials management, production quality and customer service. Examines existing procedures or opportunities for streamlining activities to meet product distribution needs. Directs the ordering, movement, storage, or processing of inventory.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Manages Production & Inventory Control (P& IC) to forecast demand or create supply plans that ensure availability of materials or products.
  2. Monitors forecasts and quotas to identify changes or to determine their effect on supply chain activities.
  3. Defines performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, such as product cost, inventory (Raw, Semi, Work in Process) or quality.
  4. Analyzes inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, leverage relationship with vendors, and to optimize customer service.
  5. Develops procedures for coordination of supply chain management with other functional areas, such as Procurement, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Production, Distribution or Quality Assurance.
  6. Collaborates with Procurement and meets with vendors/suppliers to discuss performance metrics, to provide performance feedback, or to discuss production forecasts or changes.
  7. Implements new or improved supply chain processes.
  8. Designs or implements supply chains that support business strategies adapted to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies.
  9. Manages activities related to strategic or tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory control, warehousing, or receiving.
  10. Assists in planning, monitoring, and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
  11. Supervises work of others, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff, and overseeing their productivity. May offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments, but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.
  12. Ensures all current and new employees under your supervision are trained in the Code of Business Ethics, in its meaning and application. Periodically reviews the Code with employees under your supervision and ensures they attend the annual ethics refresher program. Maintains a workplace environment that encourages frank and open communication, free from fear of reprisal, concerning compliance with the Code.
  13. Other duties, as assigned.

What You Bring:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Material Management or Supply Chain Management

10 years of working experience in a manufacturing environment with experience in purchasing, inventory, planning, supervision and MRP systems.

APICS Certification preferred.
