Job Description

The Research Scientist, Gene Editing non-viral delivery should be adept at designing and executing focused research projects to support the development of CRISPR-Cas9 based gene editing therapies. The incumbent will have the opportunity to lead various studies and work together with other Scientists and Research Associates to develop cutting edge novel gene editing tools and to evaluate and advance lead assets for our therapeutic programs. The role's responsibilities include working with a cross-functional team of synthetic chemists, formulation scientists and analytical scientists to conceptualize and develop innovative non-viral gene therapy delivery approaches. The ideal candidate is expected to display a high level of passion, drive and determination, complete work in a resourceful and proactive manner and will be able to design studies and troubleshoot results to achieve the projected goals in a timely manner.

KEY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the design, development and implementation of novel delivery strategies for genome editing technologies.
  • Generate custom lipid-based formulations and targeting molecules to optimize LNP delivery for various tissues.
  • Develop and execute LC-MS based, molecular, cell-based assays to test novel gene editing tools and candidate therapeutic assets.
  • Collaborate with internal chemistry team as well as with external CROs to advance chemistry pipeline.
  • Collect data systematically, interpret and synthesize results into cohesive conclusions.
  • Make recommendations to guide project decisions and new research activities.
  • Perform advanced experimental troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Identify, prioritize, and introduce relevant emerging technologies in eld of expertise to advance the existing technology platforms and create/maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Maintains the excellence of standards for structure and interpretation of all laboratory records, electronic database entries, internal reports, patents and external communications from the group.
  • Effectively collaborate with a fully integrated team to facilitate the success of projects.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Advanced expertise in state-of-the-art non-viral (e.g. LNP/VLP) delivery technologies for therapeutic applications with a focus on the discovery, development, and implementation of strategies for tissue-specific delivery.
  • Demonstrated scientific productivity as evidenced by a strong publication record in top tier journals or equivalent industry accomplishments.
  • Comprehensive understanding and hands-on experience in formulation and analysis of lipid-based gene delivery systems.
  • Hands-on experience on LC-MS based assay development is highly desirable.
  • Experience in one or several of the following areas is a strong plus: CRISPR-based gene editing, Next-Generation Sequencing, mammalian cell culture, FACS, confocal imaging, and cell-based assays.
  • Ability to adapt to increasing scope and complexity of work.
  • Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to build open and collaborative relationships and work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in chemistry/biochemistry/chemical engineering/ bioengineering, or related disciplines with 0-3 yrs postdoctoral research experience OR MS in chemistry/biochemistry/chemical engineering/ bioengineering or related disciplines with 4-5 yrs of relevant experience.
  • Experience in handling external CRO partners is a big plus.
