Job Title: Sr. Plant Controller

Job Location: Stuarts Draft, VA

Summary:

Direct the plant's financial operations and assist Plant Management in improving plant costs through effective budgeting and analysis and by monitoring plant performance. Manage the support of plant operations in the areas of accounting and procurement and provide for a sound internal financial controls environment. The position requires a broad business perspective and must work effectively within a team environment to provide information and services to many other plant and corporate departments (Manufacturing, Engineering, QA, ER, Marketing, etc).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plant performance monitoring:

    • Plant and line performance monitoring and control. Assure proper monitoring and financial performance of the Plant is accomplished. Provide advice to plant management on areas of opportunity (i.e. cost savings, initiatives). Direct the reporting and analysis of the Plant's financial performance on a monthly basis, control the accurate inventory records for all Plant inventories. Provide leadership and direction in investigating and understanding all major manufacturing variances to ensure timely, actionable information to management. Provide analytical support to report operational results in a manner which meets management's need to make timely decisions including results which are and explained in terms of the facilities' planned goals and objectives. Provide analysis and leadership in business development such as margin improvement initiatives.

  • Budgets & Planning/Outlook

    • Forecasting/budgeting and planning. Lead and direct the preparation and presentation of annual budgets and quantitative standards. Develop, monthly outlooks, and other financial analysis as required, through effective management of the accounting staff. Advise and counsel plant management staff and cost center managers on sound budgeting policies.

  • Guidance & Oversight

    • To direct and oversee accounting and purchasing activities to include: payroll, monthly accounting close, inventory reconciliation and verification, cost accounting, and procurement of materials.

  • Financial Controls

    • Develops and executes control procedures to ensure the integrity of plant financial records and safeguarding of plant assets. This includes regular testing and reviews to ensure proper goods receipts, finished goods shipments, production reporting, cash management, account reconciliation's, material & parts obsolescence, inventory and fixed asset accounting. Duties include the insurance that all SOX controls are in place and operating at all times.

  • General Administration

    • Administration to include: performance management, and preparation of departmental reports, customs procedures, pallet control, identifying office equipment needs, plant presentations (including annual review, plant meetings). Staffing, development and engagement of Administrative Services employees. Identify new business opportunities for the facility. Participate, as a key member of Plant Management Staff, in all plant related issues. Ensure adequate storage, handling and eventually destruction of archives, as per company policies.

  • Capital Control

    • Review capital projects for compliance with Corporate Capital Control Policies and for adequate clarity of justification, consistent with the facilities' planned direction for investment of capital resources. Act as a resource for capital related questions throughout the capital project preparation process. Provide analysis for business growth and margin improvements.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:

  • Strong knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles and corporate financial policies
  • Ability to understand long term company objectives and organize work to achieve the immediate and long-term goals
  • Strong financial analysis skills and ability to creatively employ these skills
  • Strong communication/listening skills, and ability to influence decision making
  • Ability to analyze business processes, identify areas for improvement, and execute process improvement recommendations

  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects at the same time and meet deadlines; manage a team to meet deadlines
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop people both direct reports as well as multifunctional business partners
  • Ongoing understanding of brand/pack P&Ls, key financial metrics, and accounting fundamentals
  • Ability to apply knowledge to create influential insights and drive real time conversations in support of decision making

  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (SAP) and supporting reporting functionality to drive analytics and meaningful insights

Minimum education & experience requirements:

  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent (MBA, CMA, or CPA preferred) .

  • 10 - 12 years of manufacturing accounting or equivalent, including minimum of 3 - 5 years supervisory/managerial experience.
