Job Summary:
Oversees Clinical Dietitians, performs administrative duties, and participates in patient satisfaction, quality management, and performance improvement projects. Collaborates with the leadership of Baptist Health System, other leaders in Food and Nutrition, as well as leadership in other departments, as it relates to patient care and nutrition. Plans, directs, participates, and provides optimal, age appropriate, medical nutrition therapy for hospital or physician referred patients. Supervises and participates in development and provision of nutrition education for patients, staff, and the community.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1. Interviews, selects, orients, trains, rounds on and with, Registered Dietitian's, to uphold the Baptist Mission, Vision and Values, and to achieve established strategic goals.
2. Creates and adjusts schedule to provide adequate R.D. coverage while optimizing staffing pattern. Completes the timely review and sign-off of payroll of clinical staff.
3. Initiates and develops standards of nutritional care delivered to patients and ensure resources are available to provide this care. Evaluates practices, incorporates scientific research and development into the standards of care to discover the best or new approaches to patient nutritional needs and retain efficient, effective, and quality delivery of patient care.
4. Meets hospital, department, and regulatory standards for providing nutrition screening, assessments, and reassessments from assigned units according to established policies. Oversees MNT policy updates, review and revisions.
5. Conducts yearly clinical nutrition competency assessments on all Clinical Dietitians.
6. Evaluates clinical nutrition knowledge of clinical dietitians, provide performance assessments routinely; responds to dietitian's questions requiring a higher level of experience. Ensures dietitians maintain a current knowledge and the skills of nutrition/patient care through continuing education and professional association(s)/journals. Provides in-service education and promotes growth and development of all employees.
7. Functions as the clinical nutrition expert, and technical advisor to physicians, healthcare team members and all other employees.
8. Regularly attends meetings and participates on various committees, both inter and intra departmental, schedules personnel and professional staff meetings.
9. Supervises the delivery of nutritional care to patients. Ensures all staff members adhere to department standards of practice, evaluate nutritional assessments and medical charting; the development and implementation of patient nutritional care plans, patient discharge planning and provides instruction to patients on their continued nutritional needs.
10. Acts in the capacity of an RD at Baptist Health Louisville as needed.
11. Assists in patient menu planning and approves patient menus to meet regulatory and dietary guidelines.
12. Identifies quality improvement opportunities, collects data, and develops and implements strategies as appropriate.
13. Evaluates technology and implements systems which produce desired results.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:
Registered Dietitian and licensed in the State of Kentucky.
Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years clinical experience in an acute care setting.
1-2 years prior management/supervisory experience preferred.
