Summary

The Sr Athletic Trainer provides leadership to the athletic training department through oversight of their school location and/or involvement in special projects. They ensure communication between the athletic training team, the sports medicine team, the hospital network and the athletics office. This role is responsible for the overall organization and administration of athletic services at their service location and/or within their respective project area. Responsibilities may include planning and directing the efforts of other colleagues.

Job Duties

  • Adheres to the criteria for clinical certification as established by the National Athletic Trainer's Association. Engages in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation and reconditioning of student athlete injuries.
  • Develops and implements educational programming to improve daily operations and utilizes training to enhance knowledge.
  • Performs evaluations and assessments for athletic injury and identifies signs and symptoms of illness, systemic and local metabolic failure, pathomechanics, and improper nutritional needs. Researches symptoms of injury to understand stress loads on the human body.
  • Determines athlete physical readiness to participate in an activity and conducts ongoing evaluation of an athlete's progress through various stages of rehabilitation.
  • Implements and designs programs to assist in the rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
  • Prepares athletes for treatment and/or competition and ensures comfort and safety of athletes and identifies traumas, as necessary.
  • Assists in preparing athletic training equipment for use and recommends new equipment and supplies to ensure optimum quality of athlete's care.
  • Together with the administrative team, set goals for each location and project. Advance project goals relative to initiatives and/or school needs in a timely manner through effective planning and direction of colleague efforts. Ensure timely delivery of required reports and data to athletic training administrators including emergency action plans, planning documentation and policy/procedure.
  • Communicate effectively with administrators to ensure a smooth service delivery, sharing any school or project needs with athletic training administrators.
  • Provide effective education for new hires and current colleagues relative to service location and/or initiatives.
  • Develop service schedule for colleagues, projects and relevant provider coverage to ensure all service needs are met. Effectively manage equipment, inventory and supply.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Athletic Training or Exercise Physiology from a CAATE accredited program or
  • Master's Degree Athletic Training or Exercise Physiology from a CAATE accredited program or
  • Successful completion of an approved Athletic Training Internship program and appropriate National Certification
  • 2 years experience in the clinical setting.
  • Ability to plan, implement, document, communicate, and refer to the appropriate medical team members.
  • Ability to flex work schedule outside of normal business hours to meet the demands of clients.
  • Knowledge base of normal anatomy, physiology, body's response to exercise, and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and psychological demands placed on the injured athlete.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, emotional intelligence, decision making skills, and critical thinking.

  • AT - Athletic Trainer BOC - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • ATL - Athletic Trainer License - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office and other internal computer software systems.

Physical Demands

Lift over 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 140 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. short distances. Frequent standing/walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching overhead.
