As the Director of Strategic Communications, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing our company's image and reputation. Your expertise in campaign communications, crisis management, advocacy, and traditional corporate communications will be crucial to ensure effective communication with our stakeholders, including customers, employees, investors, regulatory bodies, and the general public. You will work closely with senior leadership to develop and execute communication strategies that align with our business goals and values.

The Director of Strategic Communications responsibilities include but arenot limited to:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement holistic strategies that support the company's objectives, enhance its reputation in the industry and reach a range of stakeholders.
  • Campaign Communications: Lead the planning, development, and execution of strategic communication campaigns to promote the company's initiatives, achievements, and commitment to the role of natural gas as a climate solution.
  • Crisis and Issues Management: Develop robust crisis communication plans and lead the team in effectively managing and mitigating communication challenges during times of crisis or negative events.
  • Advocacy: Collaborate with government relations and public affairs teams to develop and execute advocacy communication strategies that engage stakeholders and positively influence policy decisions.
  • Thought Leadership: shaping core messaging, as well as identifying earned media, conference and speaking opportunities.
  • Media Relations: Cultivate relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers to ensure accurate and positive coverage of the company's activities and support campaign communications objectives.
  • Executive Communication: Provide strategic communication counsel to senior executives, preparing them for media interactions, public appearances, and internal communications.
  • Content Development: Oversee the creation of compelling written and visual content for press releases, speeches, presentations, social media, and other communication platforms.
  • Measurement and Analysis: Implement metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns and to understand key audience needs, providing insights for continuous improvement.
  • Budget Management: Manage the communication department's budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources for maximum impact.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, with a focus on campaign communications, crisis management, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing communication teams.
  • Strong understanding of the energy sector, particularly in natural gas, and familiarity with related regulatory and environmental issues.
  • Experience developing and executing multi-state or multi-national communications strategies and/or advocacy campaigns, including usage of various communications mediums and exposure to polling and focus grouping, to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and impactful messages for various audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing crisis situations and mitigating reputational risks.
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships with media, industry influencers, and key stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align communication efforts with overall business objectives - not an "order taker" but a forward leaning strategist.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to measure the impact and effectiveness of communication strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in digital communication platforms, social media, and content management systems.
