Job Summary:
The Department of Theatre and Dance of Bucknell University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Theatre History, Dramatic Literature, and Acting, with a start date of August 2024 and end date mid-May 2025. This position consists of a 5-course teaching load in addition to directing a mainstage production in the artistic season. The candidate should be a student-centered teacher-scholar-artist who will support a theatre and dance curriculum that promotes equity, inclusion, and a liberal arts mission.

Job Duties:

The five required courses will include: Acting I; Script Analysis; Introduction to Theatre; and 2 courses in theatre history ("Rituals, Festival, and Institutions" and "Theatre and Revolution" or a history course in the candidate's research area). All courses are taught with a liberal arts ethos and an emphasis on performance practice. The candidate will also direct a mainstage production that is drawn from a department-selected shortlist of three plays.

Additional responsibilities may include mentorship of student directing, production dramaturgy, or intimacy choreography, depending on departmental needs, artistic season, and the candidate's area of interest and qualifications. Faculty members participate fully in department meetings and will be expected to contribute to the arts community at Bucknell.

It is preferred that the candidate hold a PhD in Theatre; however, candidates who hold MFA degrees will be considered, as will ABD doctoral candidates. The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in directing at the undergraduate level, commitment to undergraduate teaching, and strong evidence of work as a collaborator and a mentor with excellent communication skills. The Community:
