City Experiences is seeking a Marine Mechanic for our HMS Ferry operation in Puerto Rico.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Marine Mechanic coordinates, leads, and documents maintenance and repair functions associated with the operation of project vessels. Adheres to departmental procedures and ensures associated training and compliance. Performs preventative maintenance program and planning activities. Maintains vendor and contractor relationships. Executes and manages critical spares and consumable inventories. Reviews and monitors work requests and ensures machinery history is maintained. Supports departmental budget and works to achieve high levels of cost efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Consider reliability and efficiency regarding Company operations.
  • Support overall state of safety and security for the project site.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e., fire extinguishers, life preservers, work vest).
  • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (as required).
  • Report safety-related concerns.
  • Periodically inspect machinery spaces for environmental, safety and health deficiencies. Bring deficiencies to the attention of the Chief Engineer and Vessel Master. Monitor corrective actions until complete.
  • Develop and promote engineering management systems at the project site.
  • Implement and execute Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Develop work orders and issue maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Support the completion of maintenance and repair tasks by Company personnel and outside contractors.
  • Maintain machinery history.
  • Assist with training and orientation of maintenance personnel and shipboard engineers.
  • Support and maintain consistency among engineering training programs at the project site and throughout the Company.
  • Participates in engineering training and drills in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and best management practices.
  • Sail as watch Chief Engineer if required.
  • Supports engineering personnel proficiency and provides instructions / guidance for areas of improvement. Encourage and monitor shipboard engineering staff for career advancement.
  • Investigate machinery casualties to determine the cause. Where appropriate incorporate findings in engineering and machinery procedures.
  • Conduct appropriate testing and trend analysis.
  • Provide guidance and assistance in the vessel overhaul process, to include project planning, definition of work, assistance with technical specifications, definition of ship's force projects, and assist with materials / vendor sourcing.   • Support and motivate shipboard engineers and personnel to perform their duties with professionalism, accuracy, and enthusiasm.
  • Assist other project site managers to ensure vessels and facilities comply with applicable regulations and all inspections and certificates are current and available.
  • Develop and maintain standards for engineering logs and vessel maintenance records.
  • Assist with budget development and responsible for M&R expenditures, cost control and budget tracking.
  • Work with regulatory bodies during drills and inspections.
  • Develop positive working relationships with the client, vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Encourage uniform standards of maintenance personnel and shipboard engineers.
  • Understand the Employee Handbook and adhere to policies.
  • Comply with rules and regulations contained in the crew handbook and as directed by supervisor including, but not limited to:
  • Report to work on time and ready for duty.
  • Ensure that the proper uniform is worn, and grooming standards are met.
  • Complete required administrative forms clearly and accurately.
  • Understand and comply with the Safety Management System (SMS). Ensure that maintenance personnel and shipboard engineers do as well.
  • Understand and comply with Ship Instructions (SIs).
  • Maintain Crew Qualification binder.
  • Understand and comply with HELM operating procedures
  • Collaborate with other HMS personnel to remain attentive to regulatory requirements and alert to regulatory changes.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Seek clarification and support when there is a question.
  • Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all clients, both internal and external.
  • Requisition supplies, tools and other resources from Port Engineer and Port Captain as needed.
  • Report all deficiencies to the Port Engineer.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent of experience, from an accredited institution, or significant coursework and greater experiential base than required above.
  • USCG license endorsed as C/E Unlimited Horsepower.
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), and/or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification, and/or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status.
  • 10 years' experience in the passenger vessel industry demonstrating the ability to handle growing levels of responsibility.
  • 3 years as Senior Engineer or above on large passenger vessels.
  • Specific training and experience in management of major on-board systems by type and brand.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to develop and execute innovative solutions to crew management and morale issues.
  • Evidence of ability to bring increased value to task through efficiencies and cost-control.
  • Excellent career record in the marine industry.
  • Possess and demonstrate superior judgment, analytical ability, and performance under pressure.
  • Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Set and achieve high standards of performance.
  • Demonstrate initiative and be able to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with fellow employees.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, quickly changing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • General computer skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
