Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Assist the TJU community with proposal submissions to secure research grant funding. Accurately review proposals before submission and thoroughly review research awards for appropriateness before award set-up. The Research Administrator of Pre-Award is also responsible for ensuring compliance of proposals/awards with both sponsor and enterprise policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson.
  • Act as liaison between TJU and sponsors (governmental organizations, foundations, etc.) regarding award negotiation and administration;
  • Assist in providing the TJU community with interpretation, application, and dissemination of regulations as it relates to grants and the overall administration of grant awards;
  • Conduct thorough review of proposals, including review of budgets for accuracy and adherence to enterprise and sponsor policies;
  • Coordinate with ORA Post-Award amp; Contracts administration to interpret grant award terms before award account set-up;
  • Coordinate with other research service divisions regarding acceptable patent and licensing terms and other grant terms and conditions that may pose a legal risk to the institution;
  • Keep abreast of sponsor updates and changes in research administration, including electronic research administration (ERA) developments;
  • Maintain knowledge of enterprise policies and procedures specific to research administration;
  • Participate in the overall training of the community for topics related to pre-award administration;
  • Provide the TJU community with interpretation, application, and dissemination of regulations as it relates to grants and the overall administration of grant awards;
  • Work with the entire research staff and officers in accomplishing the enterprise#39;s continued goal of providing quality customer service;
  • Collaborates with PI and research staff to communicate and resolve any issues that arise concerning proposal submission;
  • Coordinates with the Scientific Writer to ensure PIs receive editing services in advance of proposal submission (as applicable);
  • Identifies and recommends specific funding opportunities that may be of interest to the PI;
  • In collaboration with other pre-award staff, complete special projects as assigned by the Associate Director(s), Pre-Award;
  • In collaboration with PI and research staff, communicate and resolve any issues that arise concerning proposal submission;
  • Maintains proposal submission records for all PIs within their assigned portfolio
  • Manages all proposal submissions for PIs within their assigned portfolio, including meeting with the PI to discuss proposed resources (labor and non-labor), drafting all administrative components of the proposal (including the budget) and coordinating submission to the sponsor;

Meets with PIs at least monthly to discuss upcoming proposal submissions

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:Bachelorrsquo;s degree (Business Administration, Management or like field)EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of two-five years of experience in research administration, both federal and non-federal. A thorough knowledge of Uniform Guidance, NIH policies and procedures, the Bayh-Dole Act, and the issues surrounding intellectual property and the ability to communicate effectively.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Experience with Word and Excel required.
