Job Title: Assistant Controller

Department: Accounting

Classification: Exempt


Summary: The Assistant Controller will manage the finance and accounting functions while simultaneously leading finance transformation projects. Working directly with the Controller and CFO, the Assistant Controller will have responsibility in all areas of the general ledger and day-to-day financial reporting. At the direction of senior leadership, you will drive digital transformation initiatives within the finance group and deliver continuous process optimization. This position will be responsible for the management of a small to medium sized accounting department, and should have prior management experience.

Responsibilities: As the Assistant Controller, you will:


General Accounting:

  • Manage the general accounting functions, including detailed Balance Sheet reconciliations, inventory valuation, and cash flow management.
  • Ensure monthly close process meets Company timelines by maintaining the month end close calendar and coordinating tasks with the Finance & Accounting team.
  • Enforce and enact Accounting policies and procedures with internal customers while building a strong working relationship.
  • Assist Controller with the annual audit in coordination with an independent CPA firm.
  • Support in Federal and State Income Tax workpaper preparation for fillings as well as acting as the Company's SME for Sales & Use Tax.
  • Implement new accounting standards throughout the financial reporting process.

Cash Management / Treasury:

  • Prepare weekly cashflow forecast in coordination with Credit Collections, Accounts Payable, and the FP&A Department.
  • Prepare budgets, cash flow projections, and annual forms as required.
  • Implement new financing lines and maintain relationships with funding partners.

Cost Accounting:

  • Analyze Purchase Order variances and determine cause of favorable or unfavorable results.
  • Maintaining BOMS in Syteline weekly and manage the current standard costs for the compan
  • Review business line profitability metrics across the organization and provide insight into the cause of favorable or unfavorable outcomes

Continuous Improvements Projects:

  • Avid user of Analytics tools to achieve company goal of data efficiency and scale.
  • Identify and provide technical feedback to Syteline ERP Consultant for process improvement.
  • Coordinate implementation and continuous improvement of accounting and project software systems (i.e. Syteline, Coupa, LucaNet).

Leadership:

  • Challenge and support the accounting & finance team in their development goals, ensuring continual professional development.
  • Drive continued accountability throughout the accounting & finance team.
  • Manage small to medium team of Jr and Sr Accountants.
  • Actively mentor students as part of their Work-Study Program or students through Internship/Co-op programs.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the organization's goals.


Requirements

You're a great fit for this position if this describes you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
  • 5- 7 years: accounting, reporting, and analysis experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Strong background in a similar industry will be considered as well.
  • CPA a plus.
  • Management/Leadership experience
  • Exceptional in current computer software: MS Applications Word, Excel, and understanding of ERP systems, (Syteline, Luca Net & Coupa preferred).* Able to define complex problems, establish facts, and draw conclusions to implement relevant solutions.
  • Able to think out of the box and work without excessive supervision, fast learner with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse projects including, analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, problem solving, decision making and carrying out assigned projects with minimal supervision.* Must handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team cooperation, and communication skills.
  • Able to build strong internal and external relationships, with proven conflict management and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail is a must with a focus on executive quality presentation.
  • Excellent written communications skills, including the use of proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar to produce error-free copy, particularly composing letters, reports and documents used for decision making.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills including tact and diplomacy which would be utilized during customer service, conflict management, development of relationships with internal and external contact.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced, team environment, under pressure with time constrains while responding and adapting to change favorably and quickly.
