SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Support the POD plants and other plants, as needed, in their daily tasks, including development of system procedures, auditing, new item project support and execution of SPC system. This position will also require personal involvement in many of the Quality Engineer's tasks including procedure writing, auditing, and plant visits.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and support in the following areas:
  • Plant support of new projects
  • Plant support for Customer issues
  • Annual corporate Quality audits (schedule, plant corrective actions)
  • Development of new procedures
  • Support all plant QMS needs
    • Manage and develop procedure systems
    • Develop and initiate new corporate procedures
    • Support Customer requests for 3rd party audits of Silgan facilities
    • Work closely with the PDE Managers in scheduling support for new projects
    • Provide support to plants, and Customers as directed.
    • Work with Silgan Product Development Engineers and Customers in developing specifications and test methods as needed.
  • Train or provide training opportunities for the corporate Quality engineering staff
  • Make recommendations for gaging and inspection equipment
  • Respond to Customer requests for information regarding the Quality system
  • Prepare (Quality related) presentations for Customers and plants
  • Perform supplier and Corporate internal audits
  • Fill the role of POD leader to plants whose QM is a POD Leader
  • Work with customers, plants and engineering to develop TST when needed are necessary
  • Train Quality technicians and QM as needed

AUTHORITY LEVEL (if applicable):

EDUCATION:

Required: Minimum 2-year degree in Quality, Statistics, Engineering, Management or related field and applicable ASQ certifications.

Preferred: Minimum Bachelor's degree in Quality, Statistics, Engineering, Management, or related field. Certifications with the ASQ a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 5-10 years' experience as a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, or related position.

Preferred: 5-10 years' experience as a Quality Engineering Manager in the blow molding or packaging industry.

SKILLS:

Required:

  • Knowledge and functional understanding of international quality standards applicable to our plants and customers (GFSI Pac Secure, ISO 9001, ISO 15378, IMS, etc.)
  • Support management of Quality systems
  • Leadership: Including recognizing strengths and weaknesses in others as well asoneself
  • Excellent listening and questioning skills
  • Excellent communicator and trainer of Silgan policies and procedures
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others toward mutual objectives
  • Knowledge of Quality systems auditing
  • Possess good project management skills
  • Possess good technical writing skills
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Knowledgeable in the use of ANSI/ASQ/MilStd sampling plans
  • Good math and basic algebra skills
  • Proficient in the operation of computers and related software
  • Knowledge of good manufacturing practices (cGMP)
  • First-hand knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) practices
  • The ability to identify root cause, develop creative solutions to problems and

continuously improve systems and processes

  • Proficient in developing and leading statistical sampling plans

Preferred (including all of the above):

  • Formally trained team facilitator of continuous improvement efforts
  • Practical knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations as outlined in 21 CFR, parts 110, 210 and 211
  • Knowledge of related molding & decorating processes
