The ECMO adult coordinator provides bedside care to all patients receiving mechanical circulatory support, including ECMO and Cardiogenic Shock, using age appropriate devices for the assigned patient population. The ECMO Coordinator provides leadership to the ECMO and Cardiogenic Shock team acting as a clinical resource for all mechanical circulatory support devices. The ECMO coordinator is seen as an ECMO and cardiogenic shock clinical leader responsible for all aspects of the ECMO system and balloon pump and Impella systems, including priming, initiation and discontinuation. This role is responsible for taking call, is involved in ECMO and cardiogenic shock hospital patient transfers ( within hospital to hospital and outside of Norton facilities),supports the bedside and physician teams, participates in daily patient rounds, and is available to troubleshoot any concerns and answer any clinical questions for the team. Working in collaboration with departmental leadership, the ECMO coordinator creates and maintains staff education, supports all training and simulation events related to ECMO and cardiogenic shock and participates in extracorporeal therapy education, as defined by ECMO and nursing leadership.
