Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION:

Supports the maintenance organization of the Petrolia facility with a focus on equipment engineering and contractor coordination. The position will evaluate and communicate preventative and corrective maintenance activities concerning plant equipment, systems and infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
  • Uncompromising attitude towards the safe work performance of the organization, its employees and those who visit
  • Arrange and conduct safety discussions, safety meetings and inspections
  • Review daily work of contractor personnel
  • Coordinate and prioritize the use of all contracted maintenance services in the plant including but not limited to HVAC systems, fork trucks, plant air systems, docks and doors, plant grounds, water wells, company houses, vegetation control, plant fire system, plant buildings, pests control, crane inspections, predictive maintenance servicesand others as assigned
  • Work closely with operations to provide quick response to tasks requiring action
  • Understand and meet the requirements of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Develop and review plant standards for new projects
  • Assist in managing the plant MRO inventory
  • Develop RCA on equipment failures and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and manage capital projects as assigned
  • Assist in training operations and maintenance departments in the proper operation and maintenance of fixed equipment
  • Perform sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignment
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities, incident investigations, and Pre-start up Safety Reviews (PSSR)
  • Generate and/or modify P & ID's
  • Act as a technical resource for maintenance, processand project engineering departments that provide for sound fixed equipment reliability and maintainability
  • Review and make recommendations pertaining to proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing processing equipment
  • Gather, analyze, interpret, act uponand disseminate pertinent data
  • Serve as backup for Maintenance Supervisor and Planner as necessary including supervision of unionized employees during these occurrences
May be required to do some or all of the following:
  • Create and update job plans and implement preventative maintenance tasks within the work order system including appropriate filing of all documentation (electronic and/or hard copy)
  • Ownership of the consistent availability and maintenance of the plant fire protection systems and equipment

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of 5years ofexperience in a similar role.
EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

A minimum of an Associate Degree or Technical Certification in maintenance operations or similar program.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings.
  • Technical problem solving skills including proficiency and understanding in various methods of root cause analysis.
  • Ability to decipher and work within requirements of a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Excellent communication skills and personal rapport to support the initiatives throughout the plant.
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance requirements and other environmental and/or safety regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • SAP Experience.
  • Six Sigma Training.
SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

May be responsible for supervising contractors depending on assignment.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Petroleum refinery and driver-based environment including but not limited to chemical, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to risk of electrical shock. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions. Occasionally required to work long hours which may include nights, weekends, holidays for regularly scheduled maintenance and emergency work and support as well as on-call availability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 15 ft, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver's license and proof of insurance, perceiving color differences, ability to wear personal protective equipment and a respirator during emergency situations as needed (beards not permitted).
