The OR Unit Specialist is an RN who assumes an expanded role within the OR. Based on knowledge and experience, the individual in conjunction with the nursing leadership in the OR helps establish standards for the assigned specialties, acts as a liaison for the surgeons, facilitates case flow, assists in the orientation and training of OR personnel, and helps maintain adequate par levels of equipment, supplies, and implants within the surgical specialties.
The Unit Specialist assumes responsibility for remaining knowledgeable of procedures, surgical and nursing techniques for area of specialization and seeks ways to incorporate that knowledge into daily practice.
