Job Description

Direct student organization and leadership development initiatives for graduate and professional students. Lead student organization management efforts through managing student organization budgets, overseeing associated risk management issues, and advising student leaders. Contribute to the strategic planning, overall vision, and leadership in the Office of Student Life and Engagement. Supervise an administrative assistant and/or and graduate student employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee all aspects of the student organization management platform (e.g. Campus Groups or similar) and work closely with platform representatives to identify and use platform functionality to best meet our needs.
  • Manage the Annual Registration Process and Annual Budget Allocations Process, including developing and overseeing student organization officer training.
  • Manage the identification and implementation of best practices for student organization management and the associate technology needs. Oversee the creation and enforcement of student organization policies and procedures based upon best practices and in consideration of advisement from legal counsel and risk management offices, and develop the annual Student Organization Manual accordingly.
  • Assist the Director in overseeing the daily operations and functions of the Office of Student Life and Engagement. Oversee the office and supervise professional, administrative, and student staff in the absence of the Director.
  • Direct student leadership development programs and initiatives including curriculum and content development, program logistics, and outreach to presenters, faculty, and students. Engages in assessment to determine student needs and benchmarking to identify trends and practices at other institutions in graduate leadership programs.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Work autonomously in an environment with limited daily student interfacing interactions, and create innovative programs, services, and solutions for meeting the needs of graduate and professional student population.
  • Direct initiatives pertaining to student organization support, leadership training, resources, and development opportunities for student organization leaders. Manage the involvement of student organization leaders in campus and community events. Advise and guide students through the process of creating a new student organization.
  • Manage all hospitality and logistics components related to student organization activities including event requests, room requests, funding, and purchasing.
  • Assist the Director with reviewing practices, policies, and initiatives associated with student life and engagement
  • Engage in the evaluation and outcomes assessment of services and programs.
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Engage in outreach to student organization advisors to establish relationships and provide training.
  • Assist with other programs and services coordinated by the Office of Student Life and Engagement including but not limited to: student activities programming, University Orientations, and pre-matriculation requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to facilitate student organizationsrsquo; goals and activities. Serve as an advocate for students and their needs.
  • Manage student locker rentals.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Masters degree in student affairs, leadership, counseling, higher education, or related field required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum 3-5 years professional experience in student life and engagement areas.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data management preferred, as well as attention to detail and process / project management skills.
