The Senior Product Research & Development Engineer conducts research and development programs designed to assure the Company's competitive position, profitability, and safe product designs. Independently conducts research and development projects for new or improved products and processes. Provides technical assistance and coordinates research activities with other support functions such

as production maintenance and sourcing. This position will report into the Senior Manager Research & Development in our Hanover, PA facility.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently on the research and development of key new products and improved products.
  • Develops and manages project systems for short- and long-range research programs. Uses Stage Gate, Gantt Charts, Design of Experiments Methods, Project Database (DFN) or similar methods to manage and assure project completion dates are met.
  • Maintains complete and exhaustive records of formulas, process methods and product standards used in development
  • Maintains required records to support patent actions and assists in obtaining patents on inventions. Prepares and presents technical papers and reports as required.
  • Works closely with Sales/Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing, Sourcing and other departments to provide advice and engineering services to meet the Company's overall goals.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with Product Management of key accounts to keep abreast of industry trends, competitive activity and provide technical advice and assistance as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Metallurgical/Welding Engineering
  • Have fundamental understanding of steel properties and impact on weld performance
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in roles with increasing responsibility; experience in Filler Metal Development preferred
  • Ability to review specifications and conduct tests to confirm product meets specifications
  • Clear understanding of the development-to-market process
  • Good communication skills, ability to work with cross functional teams, and manage projects
  • Ability to travel globally up to 20%
  • Open to relocation
