Job Title: Fatherhood Facilitator for Incarcerated Fathers

Position Summary: The incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining a fatherhood initiative program at the Allegheny County Jail. The initiative will include a consistent group of fathers who implement self-determined activities and events and adhere to the goals and objectives of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Family Center Fatherhood Initiative.

The Fatherhood Facilitator for Incarcerated Fathers will be responsible to serve as the primary contact between the fathers that are incarcerated that the Allegheny County Jail, Allegheny County Reentry program, Adult Education Program and various county and community agencies. Responsible for intakes, individual assessments, coordination, and monitoring of the delivery of service coordination to fathers / families including case assessments and management, referrals/coordination to social services, medical, and government agencies (etc.) to promote long term self-sufficiency. This position also will identify potential resources to enhance educational, social, and economic opportunities for fathers and their families. This incumbent will be responsible to bring more resources to the program that will benefit fathers who need specialized services. The position also requires the experience and knowledge of the community and key people and agencies in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. The Fatherhood facilitator will follow the Family Support Principles.
  2. The incumbent will coordinate recruitment strategies at the Allegheny Jail to establish attendance at parenting classes.
  3. The incumbent will staff the group and facilitate the needs of the fathers in the group.
  4. The incumbent will provide practical, emotional, and social support to fathers.
  5. The Fatherhood facilitator must maintain a collection of data and documentation.
  6. The incumbent will assist fathers in the development of a child involvement plan.
  7. The Fatherhood facilitator is responsible for maintaining and updating files as needed.
  8. The incumbent will work as a team with fatherhood and adult education staff.
  9. The candidate should have training/experience facilitating various curriculums.
  10. Work with fathers in understanding the role of fathers in children's lives.
  11. Encouraging fathers to participate in groups and activities.
  12. Develop a goal plan with participating fathers.
  13. Participate in reciprocal relationships based on respect.
  14. Develop and maintain relationships with service providers.
  15. Communicate fiscal and programmatic needs to the program supervisor.
  16. Provide training/guidance in areas of expertise.
  17. Adhere to all A.I.U and Allegheny County Jail policies and procedures.
  18. Pursue training and information which would serve fathers and their families.
  19. Coordinate activities with the Allegheny Jail's Adult Education and Reentry programs.
  20. Keep attendance records and complete and submit monthly reports.
  21. Other duties assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma/GED required with one year's experience with young children required. Incumbent demonstrates the ability to work with parents, children, communities, and schools.
  2. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, organizational and recordkeeping skills
  3. Basic level expertise in Microsoft Office products.
  4. Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and ability to work with limited supervision.
  5. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
  6. Ability to track, evaluate and interpret data to ensure high-quality programs and services
  7. Ability to comply with AIU policies and procedures.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
  2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
