Job Description

We are looking to fill a Bioanalytical Automation Specialist 1, 2, or 3 position working as a full-time employee of Parexel FSP on long-term assignment onsite at one of our clients located in West Point, PA. This position offers full benefits, sick time, 401K, paid holidays, and paid time off.

Description : The regulated bioanalytical group is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide automation and operational support to our scientific labs.The selected individual will provide hands-on automation support, automation design and fabrication and automation production support in a preclinical and clinical research environment. The candidate will assemble, calibrate and test robotic instrumentation. This individual will collaborate with the method development groups, preclinical (GLP) group, clinical group, and data scientists to deliver state of the art automated assays, supporting bioanalysis workflows across the organization. The candidate will participate in active discussions on the design and optimization of laboratory experiments. The successful candidate will leverage the understanding of laboratory technology to impact bioanalytical workflows in pre-clinical and clinical settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Liquid Handling / Automation Integration
    • Programming/Liquid handling integration work (Hamilton, Mantis, Tempest, Mosquito, Dragonfly, Thermo Inspire, Biosero)
    • Develop quality control procedures to ensure accurate liquid handling.
    • Utilize vendors to support and service equipment to minimize down time.
    • Interface automation with other devices and databases
    • Responsible for operations and troubleshooting robotic systems
    • Work jointly with department members, IT, and across functional teams to contribute, operate, and support our automation infrastructure
  • LIMS Management
    • Maintain accurate records in LIMS for sample management (inventory and tracking).
    • Utilizes and demonstrates proficiency with computer database systems that support and facilitate sample management operations.
  • Project Support
    • Define Project requirements
    • Creation and execution of Installation and Operational Qualification (IQ/OQ) documents
    • Coordinate installation requirements with Safety and Facilities
    • Contribute to the validation and implementation of novel automated workflows
  • Process Optimization
    • Seek to continuously improve processes, systems and overall client satisfaction.
    • Provide direction/information to vendors, suppliers, facilities staff and service providers as required ensuring excellent coordination/execution of work within the client environment with minimal disruption, as needed.
    • Create SOP's for efficient and effective operation of automated equipment to satisfy department service level agreements and objectives
    • Collaborate to identify, evaluate, and recommend novel automation and assay strategies to drive our development programs, including data science and machine learning technology
  • Client Interface
    • Act as an interface with client and suppliers.
    • Act collaboratively to solve problems and resolve spontaneous and unique situations with professionalism and service orientation.
    • Ensure appropriate follow up with scientific staff.
    • Develop/maintain positive relationships with internal/external customers and facilities staff.

Qualifications: BS or MS Degree in Automated Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or equivalent

  • Automation Specialist 1, BS with 0-1 years of industry experience
  • Automation Specialist 2, BS with 1-2 years of industry experience; or MS with no experience
  • Automation Specialist 3, BS with 3-5 years of industry experience; or MS with 1-2 years of experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • High level of automation and engineering competency and technical expertise in the areas of integration, robotics, liquid handling, software and electro-mechanical solutions, and must be able to apply this expertise to continuously improve the organization's technical competency and output.
  • Experience with computer languages (e.g. VB, Python, C#, labview)
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with site leaders, corporate management, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication of plans and issues.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Must be able to prioritize projects and resources to deliver required level of output and support to customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Development and execution of quantitative and qualitative bioanalytical assays (e.g. ELSA, mass spectrometry, ECL)
  • Experience with liquid handling systems (e.g. Beckman, Labcyte, Tecan, Hamilton)
  • SQL/Oracle programming
