Overview

Bergmann, an Affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is currently seeking a Structural Design Engineer to join the Buildings Engineering group.

Responsibilities

Purpose of Position:

To work alongside engineers and architects as part of a design team applying structural engineering principles towards the successful design of low to mid-rise new construction projects, as well as evaluating existing structures for renovations or reuse.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are typical of a structural design engineer, but are not all encompassing:

    Perform engineering calculations with the aid of computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations
  • Create structural design plans and details in Revit
  • Perform site visits, make observations of ongoing construction progress, and survey the structural components of existing buildings
  • Coordinate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFI's
  • Perform QAQC related tasks
Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have 2-12 years of experience and have their EIT or PE certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with Structural Emphasis from and ABET accredited University
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Possess a basic/intermediate skill level and understanding of Revit with a willingness to progress towards an advanced level
  • Possess a basic/intermediate understanding of structural engineering software such as RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, SAFE, PROFIS, etc. with a willingness to learn and become proficient
  • Understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles
  • Knowledge of current building and material design codes and standards such as, IBC, ASCE7, AISC360, ACI318, ACI 530, NDS
  • Possess an intermediate/advanced level in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be able to perform job specific tasks with limited guidance as well as interact and collaborate with multiple members of a design team
  • Previous internships/co-ops/full-time position in an engineering office setting, materials testing laboratory, and/or construction field are desirable
