THE POSITION

Are you on the lookout for a chance to develop the expertise needed to run and maintain wastewater treatment facilities? The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is in search of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, you will engage in duties associated with the maintenance and operation of the wastewater treatment plant at Ohiopyle State Park. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, you will gain progressively responsible experience in the maintenance, operation, and regulatory compliance of two sewage treatment plants at Ohiopyle State Park. You will assist with the operation, maintenance and repair of various electric motors, pumps, compressors, valves, sand filters, chlorinators, aerators, water softeners, flow meters, liquid level mercury switches and related equipment. You will also assist in collecting wastewater samples and performing chemistry tests, as well as the preparation of all regular reports for the sewer and water systems.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits.
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee (commonwealth title) program and certification as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant; or
  • Possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires you to have possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and sub classification of the wastewater system to be operated or maintained. (Class D - subclass 1 sewage license).
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
