This position is for the Center of Microbial Pathogenesis (CMP) within the Department of Pediatrics.
Technician needed for laboratory that investigates immune responses against retroviral infections. This individual will work with a team investigating cellular defenses against retroviral infection. Experimental techniques will include mammalian tissue culture, molecular virology, molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing, immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, western blotting, etc. Well-developed organizational and time management skills are a big plus. The role will also involve laboratory organization and maintenance, as well as participation in lab meetings and journal clubs. We will happily consider individuals interested in working during a gap between undergrad and grad/medical school, as well as individuals looking for a long-term laboratory position. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. * Performs a variety of laboratory experiments such as histology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis, and may perform microsurgical procedures. Ensures conformity to specifications.
* Identifies and prepares specimens.
* Oversees supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items.
* Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
* Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results.
* Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests sterility of laboratory equipment.
