International Product Safety & Regulatory Specialist, Easton, PA (Hybrid)

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides technical management for the Global Product Safety and Regulatory Program in the R&D Division to ensure that all Crayola International products meet the company's standards for consumer safety. Responsible for new and existing products, International Licensing and expansion of Crayola Experience outside of US. Manages the detailed aspects of the Safety and Regulatory program through interactions with forums like the Product Safety & Risk Review Committee, external consultants, trade associations, ASTM Standards committees, suppliers, and health organizations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the Global Product Safety and Regulatory Program to ensure products meet global policies, regulations, and standards for toxicology, mechanical, human factors, and microbiological safety. These include FHSA, CPSIA, EU/UK Directives, CHPA, FDA, and other global regulations and consumer product standards.
  • Compile and maintain technical files per EU Toy Safety Directive.
  • Provide compliance testing for new markets such as LATAM, Asia, Brazil, China, India etc.
  • Specify country specific guidance for product safety labeling. This includes age grading, warning statements for mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic products, usage restriction language, country specific graphical symbols, and other regulatory compliance statements.
  • Research and provide technical/scientific consultation and recommendations on safe product design for new international product development. Serve on Crayola's Product Safety & Risk Review Committee to provide a broad perspective on potential product risks and safety assessments.
  • Manage compliance of licensed products, Crayola Experience and Location Based Entertainment.
  • Develop safety and regulatory specifications that are in compliance with Global, State, and Industry regulations and standards. Monitor new and emerging safety issues worldwide and communicate with cross functional teams.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as a product safety professional in the consumer products industry developing safe product designs and chemical formulations
  • Knowledge of consumer products safety regulations including FHSA, CPSIA, EU Directives, CHPA, FDA and LLAMA.
  • Demonstrate leadership capability, especially discernment and risk-taking, to influence colleagues.
  • Ability to confront and creatively solve difficult problems while maintaining the equity of the brand.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to new product development.
  • Knowledge of product regulations and industry standards and ability to manage and resolve difficult problems while taking a firm stand regardless of opposition.
  • Must also have exceptional time management skills, discretion to manage sensitive information, prioritization skills to balance a large and ever changing workload and must be an excellent communicator across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to travel. A maximum of 10%.
