The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an exercise-oncology-subject-matter expert for intervention trials in the Schmitz lab. The Exercise Oncology Specialist will work as exercise physiologist for cancer patients. This includes identifying patients who would benefit from exercise training, developing and carrying out a triage system to ensure patients are seen by the appropriate professional (e.g.; outpatient rehab versus the exercise oncology specialists), facilitating exercise training with patients, data collection, serving as a patient navigator, and assisting in data management and regulatory duties. Additionally, providing decision making and problem resolution, developing procedures, and initiating new programs.
Develops and administers lifestyle interventions correlating to assessed patient fitness levels. Provides patient education and coaching as well as staff and student functional testing training. Implements physical activity intervention protocols and protocol-appropriate behavior assessment training sessions.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and work on a computer as needed. Verbal and written communication.
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
