In this role, your main responsibility will be to assess the condition of highways in a specific region and determine the necessary maintenance functions that need to be carried out. This involves evaluating the condition of the roads, as well as considering the available manpower and equipment resources that can be utilized for the maintenance tasks. Additionally, you will need to prioritize the criticality needs of the region, ensuring that the most important maintenance activities are given priority. Another important aspect of this position is evaluating the performance of subordinate foremen who are responsible for carrying out planned maintenance activities. If any issues or shortcomings are identified, it will be your responsibility to take corrective action to ensure that the objectives are met.
As part of your role, you will also be required to assess the skill level of the subordinate staff and make recommendations for any required training or opportunities for overall performance improvement. This will help to enhance the capabilities of the team and ensure that they are able to effectively carry out their responsibilities. In addition to maintenance planning, you will also be responsible for coordinating county winter operations. This involves developing plans to ensure that the roadway system is properly maintained during the winter season, taking into account factors such as snow removal and ice control.
Effective communication is crucial in this role, as you will need to effectively communicate department goals and the impact of maintenance transportation to the traveling public. This will help to ensure that the public is aware of any potential disruptions or changes to the transportation system. Finally, you will also be responsible for addressing any personnel issues that may arise within your team.
