Full Time Visting Lecturer in History of Sport - 20th Century United States

The University of Pittsburgh Department of History and the College of General Studies (CGS) are seeking to appoint in History of Sport, with a focus on the 20th Century United States. The teaching for this position is 6 courses (18 credits) per year split between in-person offerings and online courses taught through the CGS Online program. The successful candidate 2-3 sections per year of Sport History and Sport and Global Capitalism, both online and in person. They will also teach other courses depending on the needs of CGS and the History Department, as well as innovate new sports courses.

This position, which is outside the tenure stream, begins at the start of the Fall Term 2024 and is for an initial two-year term. It may be renewable based on need, funding, and continued excellence in teaching. Salary and benefits are competitive

Required Qualifications:
* PhD in History, with specific training in Sport History.

* Experience teaching in a research university with a diverse student body, including nontraditional and adult students.

* Ability to teach courses in US History.

* Previous experience or training in teaching on-line courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Specialization in contemporary US with interests that complement the development of a wider, interdisciplinary curriculum on Sport S

Responsibilities for AY 24-25:

* Teach one course online and two in-person courses in Fall 2024, with the reverse in Spring 2025 (two online and one in-person).

* Online course development and preparation should occur in conjunction with CGS designers prior to the scheduled start date (September 1, 2024) and will include participation in the CGS online faculty development cohort program for supplementary compensation.

* Meet with students to provide support for their learning and mentoring, appropriate to their educational needs.

* Contribute service to initiatives and public-facing projects in History and the College of General Studies.
