Adult Crisis Intervention Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of the Crisis Intervention and Stabilization Team (CIST) , the Intervention Specialist (IS) provides intensive therapeutic services to adults in the home and community settings. The Intervention Specialist is responsible for working directly with the client and family and providing support and assistance, when appropriate, to the Mental Health Case Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop the individual's resiliency plan by including but not being limited to the following:
    • Assessing the of strengths and therapeutic needs of the individual
    • Having the individual as an active participant
    • Including natural supports as members of the treatment team when appropriate.
    • Using family and case manager to identify any necessary family support services and develop a plan to obtain identified services.
    • Determining, in conjunction with the individual and other involved professionals, of the clinical need for special evaluations and services, such as psychiatric medication assessment or psychological testing.
    • Collaborating with the individual and other involved professionals to develop daily routines during times of crisis and transition, as well as a 24-hour crisis plan
  • Submit the completed treatment team input form prior to the end of the authorization in accordance with program regulations
  • Provide person-centered, individual psychotherapy, as agreed on with the individual, in support of the resiliency plan using a strengths-based approach. Specific formats for individual therapy will vary according to the individualized needs of the individual Respond to crisis situations using agency taught protocols and techniques in appropriate manner and make referrals to community services as needed
  • Use Electronic Health Record (EHR) to complete progress notes and authorization of services for every corresponding service provided
  • Ensure compliance with the Community Support Program (CSP) principles and principles of cultural competency during all interactions with the individual
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using agency-trained protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Licensed mental health clinician, psychologists, licensed professional counselors (LPC), licensed social worker (LSW) and/or licensed clinical social workers (LCSW)
    OR
    Master's Degree from an accredited university in a clinical mental health discipline, such as: Psychology, counseling, Clinical Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, and Marriage and Family therapy, for example (combined Bachelor's/Master's Degrees are not acceptable). The degree must include clinical coursework in the foundations of behavioral health and the provision of mental health services, i.e., counseling, abnormal psychology, psychopathology, assessment, child development, personality theory, psychotherapy lab, clinical practicum, etc. Other courses may qualify as determined by review of transcript/syllabi. In order for a degree to count as a mental health degree, the degree must contain at least (12) credit hours in core behavioral health coursework as defined above. No more than three (3) of these twelve (12) credit hours can be derived from a supervised clinical mental health practicum experience (teaching/education/other non-clinical practicum experiences will not count).
  • At least one (1) year verified post-Masters experience providing psychotherapy/counseling to adults (waived for licensed clinicians as listed above); experience utilizing crisis intervention techniques preferred
  • Bilingual (written and oral) in the predominate secondary language in the region as identified by Community Behavioral Health (CBH) funding source preferred
  • Knowledge of evidence-based services
  • Knowledge of Community Support Program principles of cultural competency
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
  • Must be able to perform CPR and crisis intervention techniques using agency-trained protocols
  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; PowerPoint preferred
  • Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience, and acceptable driving record
