HDR is looking for a Design Strategist to join our competitive Portfolio Pursuits team. The Portfolio Pursuits team puts the WOW into proposals and interviews, helping us win transformative work with world-leading organizations. Our winning process is founded in strategy and logic, with a big dollop of creativity, enthusiasm, and fun thrown in! We weave the written and spoken word together with visual imagery and custom artwork-so that our winning message is embedded throughout and connects both intellectually and emotionally with our audience. This message is brought into the interview, working with the presentation team to refine it, and coaching them for the win.

The primary responsibility of the Design Strategist is to design and deliver best-in-class creative graphics, working collaboratively with design and marketing leaders on important pursuits. We are looking for someone with exceptional artistic ability, a visual storytelling mindset, and the energy and enthusiasm to help us develop and implement winning messaging strategies.

  • Work closely with internal and external clients, vendors or partners listening to them and articulating their situation, goals, and requirements into inspiring creative briefs
  • Lead project research and develop design strategies through implementation
  • Think creatively and strategically
  • Contribute to creative brainstorming sessions acting as the catalyst that mixes ideas, pushes concepts, and finds the best way to meet the client's needs with compelling, innovative creative executions
  • Manage complex processes, strategic projects and initiatives\
  • Helps create ideas on how to inspire the creative team and how to improve processes within the graphics group to make our team more efficient
  • May manage other designers and teams within a project or team
  • May lead charrettes with outward facing clients
  • Manages workflow and processes to create efficiencies and increase productivity. Leads initiatives and systems that support the graphics team.
  • Perform other duties as needed

Minimum 8 years of experience designing creative campaigns.
Enthusiastic artist who arrives to creative conversations with ideas and solutions.
Collaborative and comfortable exploring various options, including with other graphic designers.
High-level aesthetic, and can-do passion for creating work that is innovative and unique.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.
Develop custom graphics, artwork, and visual communication devices.
Develop custom approaches to templates, covers, tabs, and other key components.
Manage final documents for printing and assembly, including submittals and leave behind pieces.
Ability to travel frequently to work in-person with local teams throughout the US.
Flexibility to adjust working hours to align with multiple US time zones.
Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Strong portfolio showing ability to design in a wide variety of styles eye for design details, such as typography, alignment, hierarchy, etc.
An understanding of branding/brand development and implementation, communications and research
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Ability to travel - valid driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Web Design or Fine Arts related field of study or equivalent experience

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) California: $108,192.00 - $154,560.00 New York: $117,600.00 - $168,000.00
