Job Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and improving processes to ensure that the quality of purchased items and supporting documents conforms to defined Parker Lord requirements and customer expectations, while minimizing the Parker Lord appraised costs.

SCOPE/SUPERVISION AND INTERACTION

The position is aligned with Sourcing, Quality Planning, and Plant Quality personnel to ensure a consistent quality message is delivered to the worldwide supply base. Effectiveness is measured by supplier quality performance (SRPPM & FPSQ), incoming inspection costs (Vendor Scrap) and internal/external audit findings. This position reports directly to the Division Supplier Quality Manager.

Conduct initial and ongoing qualification audits of potential and existing suppliers, including special process and aerospace classified part audits; maintain approved supplier list.

  • Monitor supplier quality performance. Coordinate improvement activities for poor suppliers and certification efforts for exemplary suppliers.
  • Assist in training of company and supplier personnel in Parker Lord supplier quality processes. Assist in development of appropriate training material.
  • Lead or coordinate training of supplier personnel in Parker Lord inspection and test methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Assist with design, measure, audit, and improvement of Parker Lord supplier quality processes that satisfy customer expectations. Document and maintain supplier quality procedures. Conduct audits to ensure internal compliance.
  • Participate in internal activities in support of major customer and third-party certification efforts.
  • Lead the supplier frozen planning review board.
  • Coordinate Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) with suppliers to ensure all pertinent product quality requirements for purchased materials are understood, communicated, and met in an effective and economical manner. Follow-up to ensure resolution of problem areas.
  • Work closely with the inspection personnel to determine appropriate inspection method as well as troubleshoot supplier nonconformance's.
  • Lead the Zero-Defect Approach with the suppliers.

Education:

  • BS in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or related discipline.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the quality or manufacturing field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The candidate should have knowledge of industry, government and international quality system standards and their application to an industrial environment and knowledge of manufacturing processes and related process controls.
  • Candidate must have ASQ Quality Engineer or Quality Auditor Certification or equivalent lead auditor certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Experience in utilizing APQP tools including Control Plans, FMEA's, PPAP and the ability to effectively communicate advance quality concepts, plans and technical data internally and with external (customer or supplier) personnel at all levels.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools (e.g., control charts, capability analysis, etc.) and problem-solving tools (pareto, C&E, RCCA).
  • The incumbent must have proficient in the use of personal computers and general-purpose software (Microsoft Office), have excellent oral and written communication skills, and work well in a team-based environment as a leader, facilitator, or individual contributor.
  • The position will require 20%-30% travel.
