THE POSITION

Dauphin County is currently in need of a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer (Transportation) to join the Department of Transportation. This exciting opportunity is within the Digital Delivery Section of the Bureau of Design and Delivery. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a crucial role in project management, working closely with District Offices and other Department Organizations. Your responsibilities will include policy development, reviewing project schedules, ensuring construction documentation and monitoring, cost containment, and maintaining schedule quality assurance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will guide and facilitate project management by:

  • Review of a project's Asta Power project schedule to identify and assist the district with potential issues during the design and construction phases of project delivery. Performs advanced and complex professional civil engineering work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria. It also involves independently performing or monitoring engineering studies and investigations of plans and specifications.
    • These reviews are undertaken to ensure the adequacy of the presentation, accuracy of the data, soundness of conclusions and recommendations, constructability and maintenance, and to identify any areas of potential concern related to the department's letting goal.
  • Assist project delivery management staff on the practical application of the specification and scheduling in general. Acts as a consultant to Engineering District Design staff in the development of scheduling policies and Critical Path Method project schedules. Provides direction to the district construction staff on the development of a project monitoring chart and monitoring the baseline schedule. Interested in learning more?

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.
    • The headquarters for this position may be the District Office closest to the candidate's home, unless the candidate lives within District 8, then Central Office will be headquarters.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
