Job Description

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with Technical Team to introduce new mold designs, tooling and processes that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Develop scientifically based processes to monitor performance of injection molding machines to ensure consistency of quality and efficiency via established process specifications.
  • Provide engineering feedback on new designs to insure process capability and review/test new materials. Participate in mold design reviews prior to mold build.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing for capability issues, technical improvements, and daily processing activities.
  • May be involved with auxiliary equipment to support molding operation such as robots, pickers, closing machines, etc.
  • Lead and/or participate on cross functional teams to help achieve operational goals.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Molding Technicians and productions mechanics.
  • Train employees, provide feedback on performance, assign and direct work as needed.
  • Support injection molding process control and capability using scientific molding principles.
  • Drive molding process improvements to include cycle time efficiencies, cavitation, scrap reduction, and establishment of optimal processing parameters.
  • Provide technical support for new tooling qualifications and process capability studies.
  • Support process improvement, reduction of downtime, cost reduction, TPM Improvements, and corrective action teams.
  • Assist in the set-up, repair, and troubleshooting of Injection Molding equipment.
  • Support Company Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals.
  • Eliminate waste through implementation of the Ammega Production System.
  • Ensures all safety procedures are followed and actively works to improve our safety program.
  • Ensures all quality procedures are followed and actively works to improve our quality program.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Tooling and Quality departments to meet production requirements.
  • Develop and maintain all departmental procedures & work instructions.
  • Act as direct back up to the Department Manager by supporting team leader with daily shop management when the Department Manager is absent to include leading hourly employees as a direct supervisor.
  • Help promote a positive work environment with engaged employees.
  • Works to help achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Plastics Engineering and 7+ years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of plastic injection molding process, machines, and resins.
  • Experience with Solidworks, Inventor, or similar CAD drawing software.
  • Lean and Six Sigma knowledge at a Green Belt level.
  • Knowledge and application of scientific molding principals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of automation, robots, and vision systems.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, scientific and technical journals, drawings, and procedures.

Competencies

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, management, and customers.
  • Proficiency with MS office (word, spreadsheets), database applications, e-mail and internet research.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the injection molding field.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and follow-up on tasks with timely completion.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Works well within a Team environment.
