Position Description

We're looking for aLegal Summer Internto join ourDay & Zimmermannteam located in Philadelphia, PA. Through the D&Z Law Department, this position will support multiple D&Z business groups in order to mitigate legal risk in contracting, subcontracting, and enterprise-wide supply chain efforts. The Legal Intern will be responsible for conducting research and analysis of federal, state, and local laws and federal regulations, and preparing/amending regulatory flow down documents to ensure D&Z's and its subcontractor's compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role will also provide key support in: assisting the Law Department in amending subcontracting templates; creating visualized guides of complex regulations to enable a more efficient subcontracting workflow for compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS); and will assist with certain contract record-keeping initiatives within an electronic document repository (SharePoint).

As the Legal Summer Intern, here's the work you'll do:
  • Research and analyze FAR and DFAR provisions in order to modify existing D&Z documents.
  • Assist in creating flowcharts to aid suppliers and program management in adherence to applicable regulatory obligations.
  • Collaborate with Law Department and Supply Chain stakeholders to assist with standardization efforts of templates and addendums across D&Z business groups. Create checklists and flow charts for shorthand instruction on use of various templates.
  • Participate in record review and retention efforts in order to ensure contracts are being stored in a manner that is accessible to key personnel. Assist in updating data points within an electronic repository (SharePoint) to allow for efficient searching and sorting of customer contracts and key information about contracts population.
  • Provides administrative and analytical support on other projects as needed to support process improvement and effectiveness within the Law Department and its interactions with Supply Chain and other support groups (HR, Finance, IT). Gain an understanding of the various business groups at Day & Zimmermann and their business objectives.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to independently locate, review, and analyze FAR and DFAR clauses preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Inclination toward creating visual models (PowerPoint or Tables) preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple ongoing tasks, manage to deadlines, and explore potential solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly. Superior oral communication skills.
  • Mindset of curiosity and interested in learning more about Supply Chain contract processes, and supportive in understanding the needs of the Law and Supply Chain stakeholders they are partnered with.
And if you have these qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree; currently pursuing a JD from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum one year of JD program year completed.
  • The successful candidate should have experience with, or a strong inclination toward: (1) commercial contracting practices; and (2) analysis of U.S. Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).
  • Candidates should have the ability to work 30-40 hours per week for up to 10 weeks between May-August, 2024.
  • This position will be hybrid. The successful candidate should have the ability to commute to D&Z's Philadelphia office 2-3 days per week, and have a space to work remotely the remainder of each week.
  • Great attitude and team player.
  • Successful completion of background screening process.

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the wage range for this role is $20.00/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
