A Brief Overview
The Director of Informatics & Technology will provide leadership in the implementation, integration, and ongoing evolution of clinical information systems and technology within Nursing Clinical Care Services (NCCS). The Director serves as a liaison between NCCS and Digital and Technology Services (DTS) to align clinical and DTS standards with departmental workflows, processes, and policies. The Director of Informatics & Technology acts as a change agent for hospital leaders and clinicians to promote adoption of new processes and technologies and achievement and sustainment of expected benefits and is comfortable in moving the organization out of its comfort zone to achieve excellence. By continual analysis of evidence based practice, organizational needs, industry best practices/advancements and regulatory changes, the Director adapts strategic aims for the department. The Director will enhance and expand the integration of informatics through out all clinical practice components via strong communication and collaboration with the cross-functional teams. The Director of Informatics & Technology demonstrates a clear understanding of the CHOP's standards, values and principles and uses exemplary communication skills when collaborating with organizational leaders.

What you will do
  • 1. Leadership, Workforce Management and Strategic Execution
  • Lead the develop and execution of the NCCS healthcare informatics strategy, aligning it with organizational & NCCS Department goals and industry best practices.
  • Collaborates with DTS and other stakeholders for the design, implementation within the healthcare information systems, electronic health records (EHR), and other health-related technology solutions. Partners with CHOP DTS strategic and enterprise planning activities as it relates to Clinical/Health Informatics, representing the clinical and business needs for the supported areas of responsibility.
  • Drive the assessment and implementation of new technologies that improve operational and care delivery efficiencies, supports patient safety and the highest quality patient care.
  • Practice best financial stewardship practices in identifying cost savings.
  • Build systems and partnerships with NCCS Operational Leaders to collaborate, align and seek input to sustain and implement informatics and technology initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to NCCS Informatics Shared Governance, leaders and fosters a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Facilitate an environment in which all employees are encouraged and supported so that they perform at their highest level.
  • 2. Performance, Quality, Project Management
  • Develop and regularly communicate performance metrics (dashboards, key indicators, etc.) to relevant clinical leaders regarding activities within responsibility areas.
  • Support the creation and measurement of process metrics and outcomes.
  • Coordinate with clinical and operational leadership to ensure relevant decisions are timely and effective. Implement agreed upon program methodologies and tools, providing leadership and influence over the selection and implementation of those tools.
  • Support ongoing daily operational needs within workflow assessment.
  • Ensure process design is an integral part of technology design and implementation by identifying critical success factors, resource requirements, prerequisites, optimal processes, and recommended system configurations.
  • Lead the evaluation workflows and leads reengineering recommendations of processes around utilization of computerized applications to improve the workflow of patient care and to maximize departmental and organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure informatics quality improvement efforts are consistent, follow regulatory guidelines, promote informatics research and evidence-based practice that supports improved clinical outcomes.
  • Promote the use of health IT to improve patient safety by designing, developing, implementing, and educating on the use of decision support tools.
  • Provide critical analysis and evaluation of health IT within NCCS and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflows to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes.
  • 3. Communications, Change Management and Governance
  • Proactively develop and create communications strategies and methods to effectively convey information, provide governance and oversight, and facilitate efficient decision-making.
  • Target messages to NCCS Leaders and Shared Governance Councils, etc. Continually assess current methods and strategies and develop and implement new options to meet evolving communication needs.
  • Lead and enforce effective change management processes to ensure successful use and adoption of new tools and processes.
  • Lead and/or participate in appropriate meetings including: governance, program/project executive sponsors, steering committees, and other targeted committees, etc. to achieve desired objectives.
Education Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Nursing Informatics, Computer Science, Information Science, Life Sciences, Business, Public Healthcare Administration or similar field of study Required
Experience Qualifications
  • At least four (4) years Experience in the coordination departmental projects of size and complexity within healthcare Required and
  • At least four (4) years Nursing or clinical/health informatics experience in a large academic healthcare institution(s) with demonstrated success in driving informatics initiatives within complex healthcare settings Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare operation, clinical workflows, regulatory requirements and strategic thinking as relates to healthcare informatics (Required proficiency)
  • strong experience in design and managing EHR systems (Required proficiency)
  • proficiency in data analytics, data visualization, and business intelligence tools (Required proficiency)
  • high level proficiency in Project Management tools and MS applications (Preferred proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS) - The Health Information Management Systems Society - within 12 months - Required or
  • Certified Informatics Nurse (RN-BC) - American Nurses Credentialing Center - within 12 months - Required or
  • American Society of Health Informatics Managers (ASHIM) - American Society of Health Informatics Managers - within 12 months - Required and
  • Project Management Certification (PMP) - Project Management Institute - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) - National Association of Healthcare Quality - upon hire - Preferred
