We are seeking a Restoration Counselor to join the Mobile Competency Restoration Team (MCRT) located in Sharon Hill, PA.

Earn $22.64/hour.

Position Details

The purpose of the MCRT is to provide psycho-legal education services that are designed to restore the competence of the individual to stand trial.

The goals of the MCRT include psycho-legal education services such as:

  • Rehabilitative skills training
  • Psychoeducational counseling services to aide in the restoration of competency
  • Educational services to aide in the restoration of competency
  • Assistance maintaining competency during court proceedings and processes
  • Collaboration with the criminal justice system to exchange needed information
  • Referrals to community supports at time of discharge, when necessary

The objective of the MCRT is to assist the individual to be able to function adequately in the following six areas:

  • Understanding the nature of the charges
  • Having knowledge of possible pleas, consequences and penalties
  • Having knowledge of court procedures
  • Having the capacity to demonstrate rational understanding
  • Having the capacity to assist an attorney
  • Having the capacity for appropriate behavior in the court.

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial intakes upon assignment from supervisor/director
  • Provide up to date information participant meetings and collects data for treatment plans and updates
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
  • Quickly establish treatment relationships with the individuals being served.
  • Provide coordination with other service delivery systems as appropriate for treatment
  • Participate in internal and external trainings
  • Maintain professional relationship that align with the expectation of the criminal justice system.
  • Flexibility in program development and adjustments based on program needs
  • Testify/report as requested by members of the criminal justice system

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement goal plans in conjunction with individual's other treatment team members.
  • Provide Service coordination, as appropriate within the criminal justice system.
  • Implement, evaluate, document, prepare reports concerning individual's treatment plans
  • Provide individual and group education and supportive interventions
  • Act as a liaison and consult with members of the criminal justice system.
  • Educate and support the individuals as the individual works to regain competency
  • Conduct education and treatment to individuals who has been charged with a crime is found to be substantially unable to understand the nature or object of the proceedings against him or to participate and assist in his defense, and has been deemed incompetent to be tried, convicted or sentenced so long as such incapacity continues.
  • Document individual's progress while maintaining a permanent record of individual's activity in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services in conjunction with other team members and with direction from staff with specialty training.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Participate in cross training with other specialists as deemed necessary by supervisor.

  • Attend team meetings as assigned
  • Attend all other meetings as assigned
  • Follow all Merakey policies including but not limited to standards of conduct, confidentiality requirements, standards of professional behavior
  • Document in accordance with Merakey policies
  • Complete required productivity, mileage and other reports in a timely fashion as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, special education, or related field.
  • Able to attain all necessary clearances and background checks to work with designated consumers is required.
  • Valid driver' license required.
  • Experience working with forensic populations preferred.
